Default what do I need to do to start trapping

I have been looking at maybe getting into trapping, where should I start?

nothing like taking 5 months off just to do some fishing, shooting and hunting

best thing to do is find a trapping course to take. they can be pricey but are well worth the money! also find a local trapping asso. and join if you're able. network with experienced trappers and they can help you through the process of getting started. and save up some dough for equipment!!

do you have to have a trap line or can you trap else where?

As a Resident Trapper you can trap private property that you have permission to trap on and some areas of crown land that is not a part of a trap line.

There is a lot of information that you need to know and the best way to learn it is to take a Trappers course. You can find a lot of information about becoming a Trapper in Alberta here:

does anyone have the newest*Alberta Trapper’s Education Manualand where would the closest trappers group be around the Rocky-Red Deer area?

Read about the Alberta Trappers Association in the link that I posted for you and contact them. They'll have a manual and know where the closest Trappers Local is to you.
