From the info I've been getting the main lake isn't thick yet but the bays are either there or getting there. We're headed out this weekend and likely stay in French bay .

They have netted the crap out of Primose over the last few weeks so the ice must be good up there. I understand Cold lake can be different animal for ice depths but its in the same area. Stay Safe!

Primrose is certainly as big as Cold Lake but is nowhere as deep. It's the depth of the lake that plays a big factor on the freeze-up/thaw.

Coldlake
Unlike recreational fishing commercial has quotas and is only allowed a few days a year. If not sure of ice check for yourself second hand info is dangerous and ignorance is bliss watch river mouths and Springs especially if your blazing trail make sure u can get yourself out if u get stuck. Goodluck and tight lines

I went to check out some spots on the north side of the lake. 16 inches at shore 8-9 inches 50 yards out and crossed multiple cracks to get that far. I wouldn't drive a half tonne out there.

With that being said I would never trust someone else's measurements. Go out and check for yourself and don't drill just one hole and call it good. I've heard everything from 6 inches to 2 feet of ice on cold lake.

Yup depends where you are on that lake. The bays freeze first buy just because there is 2 get off ice in the bay doesn't mean it's safe to drive across the middle. Stay safe

For sure. I don't think I'll walk over to the main lake tomorrow. I've heard thickness numbers but won't be heading that way. There's some pretty rough ice between French Bay and the main lake. Someone was on the main lake side today, looked like they came out from the PP. not sure though. We landed 8 so far today. Longest was 72cm
