Summertime bear spray safety tip
Was reading a story about a bear spray hazard I wouldn't have thought of. Could save a hard drive home and a big clean up.
Don't leave your bear spray in a car in hot weather during summer. It could explode. (pic from the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley's website.)

Haha had a local business owner leave one in his truck a few weeks back. Came back out to his truck to find the windows blown out from the bear spray exploding and shattering the glass. If nothing else he has the money to go get a new truck and pay cash for the whole thing... they do make special cases to hold the cans if you leave them in a vehicle.

I rolled around with bear spray in my drivers door for 2 years.
I guess I was lucky.

I rolled a can of aerosol cleaner around in my truck for a couple years too but then I decided to actually use it and left it on the dash for one day! and needed a new windshield. I also one time managed to knock the nozzle off of a fire extinguisher behind the seat and that was horrible. I can only imagine bear spray going off like that.

Wife's nephew, while surveying , threw one of those plum bobs in the truck, apparently the metal in those cans is very thin.

When I pulled my bear spray out this spring to check the expiration date, I was surprised at how many little dents the can had on it.... I'm probably pretty lucky that at some point during my last few trips it didn't accidentally go off. That's that kind of unexpected event I could live without lol.

bear spray
When a bear ate our can of bear spray left in tent couple years back he sure must have got a mouth full. He went overboard when he also drank our bottle of whisky and ate our can of Raid.

Bears aren't called omnivores for nothing.

Who'da thunk it?
Pressurized aerosol cans can explode if exposed to heat?
IME- my bear spray has never exploded unless I squeezed the bang switch. It doesn't freeze up, isn't susceptible to swirling breezes, doesn't wreck my gear, and is 100% effective when used correctly.

I bought one of these safety containers last year. I’ve had other containers puncture or discharge in my work van so the instant I laid eyes on this one I bought it.
