Default What is a Rilfeman?

Anyone read Venturino's article in last "Rifle" ?

Now ...this isn't intended to insult anyone here..most here are hunters and not shooters and the thing he is talking about is " Rifleman", a title that very few deserve and one that has to be given to you. You just can't call yourself a "Rifleman"

Even Venturino doesnt think of himself as a rifleman, although I'm sure many others would.

Make's a number of good points.

"Beware of the man with one gun. He will probably know how to use it."

his version: not verbatum but, "Beware of the man with one gun. He probably doesn't care much about shooting, so he probably isn't competent with it".

Some other coments that I'm sure would apply here...ie. most ppl are hunters not shooters. Shoot maybe...a box or two each year....

Anyway good article ...worth the read.

Possibly, but some of us realize that a lot of calibers are just overlapping versions of the same thing. Just found out the barrel of my ONE gun, is shot out after 30 years and trust me, I've used it well. Own lots of other guns, but this, a 7mm Sako is the one I reach for instinctively. I guess the second half of the equation is, if you're gonna a one gun man, it had better be quality.

Default a rifleman is...

someone who shoots a min of 1000s rds of 22LR each year, from field positions. Each of those shots is done with a purpose beyond the fun of just blazing away.
