Default Report

Its been a rough couple of weeks for me. Havnt done a lot of fishing which has been frustrating because i find it keeps me sane.. Was supposed to go to BC+Oregon for 2 weeks, but my aunt was taken into the hospital, and was diagnosed with cancer. Heart breaking to say the least. All of my time recently has been spent trying to make her house comfortable and organized so she can relax. It has been really tough on our family. I got some time off and got out with some buddies the last two evenings, and both evenings put a big smile on my face.

After a couple unsuccessful attempts at finding a suitable fly fishing spot on the north sask. I finally found one. One that has a ton of fish, 5 mins from my doorstep, inside the city, very fly fisher friendly (lots of back cast room). See's little traffic from anyone else, because its a bit of a hike to it.

Yesterday night was a bit of an exploratory trip with my cousin, just to see if the area was decent. I spent the first hour fiddling around with dries, the odd fish was rising here and there, nothing consistent though. After about an hour and getting frustrated, i tied on a bow river bugger to see if i could scare up a couple of pike. Well, the first cast the rod was almost ripped from my hand, and a feisty goldeye came to hand, and then another... and then another, and then another... it was great. At one point i put on a small woolley bugger as a trailer behind my streamer, and i hooked something substantial. Thinking it was a pike or something. Upon closer inspection, a pig goldeye took the streamer, and a small walleye took the small bugger at the same time! Too cool.

Tonight i brought out Biggamehunter, because i needed a fishin buddy. He wanted to catch his first goldeye. After about 20 minutes, i hooked into a goldeye, got him to the net. then another... then another... then another.. most of them getting off pretty quickly with their acrobatics. Then it went dead for a while. Things got frustrating again... but around 8 oclock all hell broke loose. Biggamehunter had it nailed down, It was about a hit per cast. All walleye this time, a couple decent sized, nothing huge, with a few goldeye mixed in every now and then. Jake (BGH) got his first goldeye and it was a chunk. Nice fish. Along with a lot of walleye. I'd say we probably hooked into 2 or more dozen fish within an hour. With multiple double headers.

These 2 have been touched a bit to bring more light into the picture.

Jake with his first goldeye, nice slab.

Im usually a trout guy, but if i can fish for a couple hours each evening and catch a lot of fish on the fly near my house, Im totally happy with that. A nice little place to clear my head, and let me focus on less serious things. This stretch is definitely a candidate for BIG fall walleye. Lots of good structure and a big back eddie. Really looking forward to getting to know these fish. I will probably return here every night for the rest of the week before i leave for the weekend to chase trout.

Tight lines.

Jeremie

The river is dropping and clearing rapidly.. The whole river will be a walleye gong show shortly.

I dont think you need to worry about people at that spot. I ventured out that way one day and gave up half way. I dont see anyone fish at the spot i go to either.

My post wasnt meant to be directed at you. I just meant that i didnt realize how easy it was to recognize it. But like you said, its not easy getting in there.

sometimes especially in city fishing its no shame to blur out your honey hole. saves tripping over 50 people next time you go out, found that the hard way

Very true, i just think it takes away from a good picture. I personally dont like a blurred/cutout background, doesnt look good from my point of view.
