Default New knockers

Well I had a rem 700 7 rem mag and decided it needed augmentation. She’s now sporting a 26” benchmark barrel , bell and Carlson stock , vx3i 4-14 windplex reticle chambered in 257 weatherby. I think I’ll name her “ The Fog” finger of god. She will spit 100grn partitions and be my go to meat getter me thinks.

Nice looking rifle. I’ve always been interested in the .257 Weatherby. How do you like the zero stop on the scope? Enjoy your new set up. Take care.

I’m still getting the feel of the set up . The zero stop on this scope seems fantastic so far.

Our small hunting group has a couple of die-hard 257 fans in it. My son taken many deer, couple 6 point bull elk with his. He does prefer his 300 Bee though. One other guy & his wife killed a bunch of deer with theirs. Nice looking rig. Good luck!

To be honest I was surprised at the recoil from a 100 grn bullet . However I’m not a small person so it is very shooter friendly. I managed 5/8” groups with 66 grn imr 4831 the first trip to the range. I will try reloader 22 next time out and shoot it through the radar to see how she does.

My go to is a 257 bee. They do kick much harder than expected and, quite frankly, as much as my 30-06.

But they are accurate, flat, and will do what needs to be done for you.

Tried a B&C stock this fall for the first time and liked it a lot.

I’ve always like weatherby rifles but being left handed couldn’t bring myself to one due to costs and recoil of those magnums. Been shooting a .25-06 for years though and that just takes it to the next level!

Default Since this thread is getting derailed - -

- - I thought I’d derail it again but in a different direction.

I got a 257B in a Mark5 and can’t get it to shoot under an inch. And most of the time is 1.5”. That ultra long throat seems to be the problem. Cuz when I get the long copper bullets to .050 off the lands is when they tighten up. But at that coal, there’s very little bullet left in the case. Iirc, there’s somewhere around .065 of freeborn. Tried bedding, floating the barrel, adding some weight to it, nothing really changed much. Except it’s much more pleasant to shoot now.

Haven’t tried factory ammo, apparently they shoot the best, but at those prices it’s a little daunting for me.

Any suggestions?

That's why I would like to see a 6.5x300 in action. Quality chunk of lead and it would be hel1 on deer

The kid should have his 6.5STW for this spring.
he has the rifle and brass , and the dies came in the other day , and the barrel should be finished and on its way to Bob at Custom Gunworx soon.

Now THAT will be interesting!

My 257wby just may be my “funnest” rifle. I’ve only shot 3 deer with it and a hand full of coyotes but it sure flattens game. My wife head shot her moose fall before last with my 257 wby dropped like a ton of bricks.

what is the twist rate of your barrel? Do you know history of your rifle? If not have you had a bore scope inspection done?

I had a couple 26 noslers and they worked great
Should have never sold the last one

I’ve found a very direct correlation between the speed of a bullet and how fast an animals hits the dirt lol

As was mentioned previously, Roy had that one figured decades ago, and more and more are running with it.
180 grain partitions + high rate of speed= best sound ever

I have had a couple 257 WM's over the years and still have one in my stable, weatherby vanguard first light, love it, 110 accubonds just flat out kill deer sized game, never tried it on anything bigger.

Not sure of the twist rate, I’m the second owner, the first owner had it pillared and bedded, so I’m thinking he did that for a reason, he said he only put about 60 rounds thro it. I free floated the barrel after I realized it doesn’t shoot real good. I put likely another 150-200 rounds thro it last summer after I got it.

I just got a Teslong borescope, came in the mail today, I’m no gunsmith, I don’t know what I’m looking for, but to me it looks really good in there. The crown is flawless from what I can see, a wee bit of erosion at the beginning of the lands, but it is such an awfully long way to get to the lands.

I would figure out twist of barrel easy to do put cleaning rod in with brush on it and Mark rod push tod in until it makes full revolution Mark rod again then measure your two marks.Perhaps that barrel is going to be a light bullet fan . 1-12 .
Just a thought.

Now Mark you know that's not true, stinky say's a light slow match bullet with a high SD out of a 6.5 grendel is more than adequate for anything that walks in North America

Sorry just couldn't resist it, I know

Have only tried 100gr plus so far but that’s a good thought, to try the lighter weights. And I’ll see if I can find the twist rate, but I haven’t had much success with that so far.

Have you ever tried seating the Barnes really, really deep in the case? It has worked for some. Worth a try. Good luck.
