Default Rife for my girlfriend

Good morning everyone! Summers soon to come! ..

So just a question, Ive been looking for a good starter rife for my girlfriend. I already know it'll most likely be a .25-06, .270, .243 .. in that range. so i'm looking for something that would be fairly comfortable, and light for her, however, she is very fit. Shes tall, 5'11, lean, and long arm reach, she has a 29 1/2" draw on a compound bow. Anyone have any suggestions of a rifle? Tikka, Browning, Rem. My only stipulation is, I wont buy anything from China.

Thank you!

Luckily China is only building rifle scopes so far. No rifles.

Thumbs up So many good choices available, help narrow the parameters.

What is the intended purpose of the rifle? Punching paper, varmints or big game? At what range?
How comfortable is she with firearms? How sensitive to recoil?
Approximate budget?

Answer those questions so that others can offer suggestions better tailored to your application.

Default My wife's set up

Hi: My Beautiful wife shoots a Weatherby Vanguard, Girls Hunt 2 (GH2) (shortened youth model stock with a shorter LOP.) 7mm-08 with a Leupold 3 to 10 by 42 VXi. Talley rings/bases. She shoots the American Whitetail 139 grain by Hornaday. Four 1 shot kills in a row from a blind at a WT deer...except this year (follow up was messy this year).
I found a safari sling and she loves it at she can carry her rifle "port arms" without being heavy on her hands....but muzzle safety is something we talk about frequently with this setup. I got her a pack to carry all her stuff into the blind. https://eberlestock.com/collections/...ucts/x1a3-pack

Your significant other's LOP suggests a regular size stock...but I would still get a lighter than average rifle to assist with carrying.

doesn't sound like she will need a shortened stock, just keep it light on rifle but recoil will be magnified as trade off

something in 6.5 Creedmoor that when scoped and everything added doesn't break 7.5 lbs would be ideal for handling and feel, lots of options avail, in 6.5 creedmoor example a 140gr at 2700 fps in a 7.5lb all up rifle will be 13.8 ft/lbs recoil energy - that would be an upper limit goal imo

a .243 win pushing a 100gr at 2960 fps will be 11.4 ft/lbs recoil energy in same 7.5 lb rifle for comparison

if you reload you don't have to be this stout to start, does she shoot lots of .22 or do you have a .223 to do the bulk of the training?

even throwing full load 6.5 Creedmoor to start might develop a bit of a flinch, start with lighter bullets at first if you can

if .243 is on the menu, look at 6mm Creedmoor, or also consider the 6.5 Grendel also, the 6mm Creedmoor will be far better than the .243 win, the 6.5 Grendel runs slower than both but heavier higher sd/bc bullets give it similar range potential afield with way less recoil, the 123gr bullets at 2580 fps in 7.5 lb rifle generate 8.6 ft/lbs recoil energy, rifle selection is limited in the 6.5 Grendels though, CZ, Howa Mini, Ruger American

My suggestion would be a Tikka in 6.5x55. The same or better than the creed and less recoil. In fact one of the lower recoiling rifles lesss than a 243.

Should be able to handle a full size rifle. I think a .243 or 6.5cm would be best or a .25-06 in a long action but it’s less common. A 7mm08 is also really nice.

Bergara, tikka, weatherby vanguard are nice rifles and that’s where I’d start. .

My wife got the Vanguard Cammila and absolutely loves it and is worth a look. They make one in a Mark 5 to and are shaped specifically for women. Check out reviews on it. Hers is in a 6.5 and she really likes the caliber too.

x2

My daughter also shoots a Weatherby Camilla and loves it. She is also similar in build but the design on the high comb, the small hand swell, lowered but stock fits women's builds perfectly and she shoots lights out with it.

Truly a very nice rifle designed by women for women by an outstanding company like Weatherby.

They come in a Vanguard model at a lower price, and a Mark V premium model, so it will fit anyone's budget and features they are looking for.

Also look at the model 7 Remington if you want a light rifle. My wife shoots a .308 with 150 gr Noslers with very little recoil. Swapped out the cdl stock for a kryptic camo pink and purple synthetic she loves it. But get her to pick the rifle that fits is very important.

Kimber Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor, or Savage Lightweight Storm if the price is more on target.

I have almost the same physical condition, Tikka fits me the best. Browning stock feels a little bit short, never used Rem. As for cartridge - 243 or any one from 6.5 family.

Default rifle ideas

If you like old school rifles, look to Tradex. The Voere M98 spotters are excellent (have 3 of them) and they sometimes have them in 6.5x55, as well as Husqvarna M98s. Loads of M96 rifles in that chambering as well for very little money.
The Voere HDFs are a step up in price but smooth bolt guns beautifully made (have 2)
You won't find 6.5 CM, but chambering in 308 is pretty common. They also have old Tikkas which are wonderful.
They have been great to deal with

X2 for the weatherby vanguard in 7mm-08.
My gf has that set up and she loves the weatherby trigger and the 7mm-08 caliber.
Death on deer! Wouldn’t hesitate on moose if we ever get a draw as well

If you get her Browning High Power Safari grade - that would be the best looking pice of furniture in your house - afraid she will make you poor requesting to change all stuff around the house to match her rifle
Ps. There are amazing others but not that glossy- Austrian Voere , for example
Pps. Of course there are lots more good makes and models

I have a sauer 100 in 308, great gun, low recoil and shoots in the same hole.
