Running with the wolves
Any thoughts on this ? 1st one is a wolf but the 2nd one isn't a very good actor I'm guessing. Of all things to see out there... No way that 1st one is a Husky ! Figured I'd share it... something different

I think that’s the elusive “pail-tailed malamute”.

Yeah you might end up in a conflict of sort if you hammer either one...

I wonder if they’re wild & roaming the bush or is someone running their dogs out in the middle of nowhere. There’s fresh deer kills nearby with wolf tracks around.
Friggen dogs I hope they’re friendly

How many miles away from anything is the "middle of no where?"
Could of been the dogs that killed the deer..

Looks like a couple of malamutes. I know that the sister of my pup (in pic) ran with a pack west of Rocky over the course of a year. Probably not the best owners/parents or whatever you want to call them... If you meet a malamute in the bush give em a butt rub and they will be your friend for life!

Neither of those "dogs" are wolves. Scary someone would even think so.

there's a work camp about 8k up the road + some logging near there. Nothing residential for a long ways. They've got good sniffer's on'em to say the least. I really did think that first one was a wolf. The coloring & head on it is identical to what I've seen before. It's paws look small though. Second guessing myself sucks.

Don't second guess yourself. You sound like a responsible, good guy to me.
It's easy for someone to say just shoot them. But when you're not 100% sure, only a goof would shoot.
Good job and thanks for posting the pics.

Domestic dogs running in packs kill wildlife for the fun of it...shooting wild domestic dogs saves a lot of wild life. But hey they might be someones pet's .? Big deal, if they are running lose their owner (s) are irresponsible and don't deserve the animals. When you see your "pets" killing deer, calves etc. your pets become targets..PERIOD.

My dog gets out of the yard every once in a while.... Does that mean someone should shoot it? I also know multiple ranchers that let there dogs run free to keep the toothed wildlife at bay..... I guess you would shoot them too?
Stay in the city son.

Much better to be wrong on a photo then be wrong pulling the trigger. Study wolf identification some more and take it as a learning experience. Great photos though!

I think he knows what a wolf looks like but it doesn't hurt to look at some pics. I wouldn't feel bad about wondering what they were Popcan. Easy mistake. If you were hunting you would have shot them both the instant you saw them I would think and if they are that far away from any civilization I wouldnt' feel bad about it either. I bet they are killing as many baby elk and moose as the wolves are.

35 years a rancher shot more then a few of your free roaming dogs in my day.
Have you ever lost a calf to someones family pet running wild and free because they're to lazy to teach them to stay home ?? then yup DRT....sorry but been there done that.
PS. your little fluffy with the pink ribbons in it's hair might get a pass.

Seen enough dogs in, should be wolves situations, to realize it's not always that easy. Even a coyote can be problematic at times, if he's far enough away. Lot of wolves and coyotes share color patterns, rigt down to the spot on the tail. If they're running like Hell, no doubt.

You are comparing Apple's to oranges. Just shooting a random lost dog that is walking through the woods is illegal. Just like shooting a random lost cow.
