Default Good Lab Gone

Ragged Harbour on the NE coast of NFLD even today remote, and barren.
I met a Anglican Minister there , who told me of an event that happened in his childhood days. He went with his father, and some family members to persue some illegal activeity. They had a salmon river near there community and they went in country to dynamite a salmon pool, not am uncommon practice in that day and age. The fuse lit and thrown in the salmon school, everyone forgot about the labrador who proceeded to swim out dive down and do what he did best, everyone ran for the lives, until the bang. A sad day indeed.

That story has been told in a 1000 variations for 100 years. First time I heard it was as a young fellow in the sixties, only the names and the places change.

Wasn't it the two goofs that decided to use a stick of dynamite to blow a hole in the ice so they could icefish? They threw the stick out onto the ice and their Labrador retrieved the stick and ran under the pickup when the pooch was yelled at .... a very common occurrence.

wow, I can just see that happening, the lab well you throw anything thats just what they do, and do it very well,a good lab worth his weight in gold.In most cases the trainers will tell its the owners thats hardest to train. The one thing you dont need to do is yell at a lab--at hopewell pheasant hunting I could hear hunters 1/2 mile away yelling at there labs Oh Boy.

Only one was salmon, the others were fish not named
Face it, it's a bloody urban myth
One can go over to Europe and likely hear the same story .Same as the hook on the car foot handle story

I am certain all of the maritime provinces and Quebec have such rivers but don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

And not that everyone doesn't have a few sticks of dynamite laying around but most every maritimer knows that a quick trip to the hardware store will get you everything you need to blow a pool for pennies on the dollar.
