Default Remington 700 SPS action jamb

I have a Remington 300 Win Mag. with a bad problem. The gun is about 2 years old, has had a few boxes of shells though it, but still the same problem since new. The bolt seems to get very tight when loading a shell after a couple of shots. I'm pretty sure it's the chamber the brass sits in, not the bolt slide itself. The gun has been cleaned and oil many times to no prevail. Has anybody else had a similar problem with one of these 700 SPS, and what did you do to cure it?

You say the shells are hard to close the bolt on... Are they also hard to extract once fired? Did you notice any unusual scratches on the brass body, or on the headstamp area? I presume these are factory loaded shells?

Just a guess here, but I am wondering if the bolt lugs are greased?
Pull the bolt and take a look at the metal on the lug back sides...any signs of roughness, galling?

Gun oil is fine for the bolt race, but not persistent enough of a lubricant for the lugs.

A guy I work with was telling me he had that exact same problem with his 700 SPS in 300 win mag on Sunday.

I have had that problem with reloaded factory casing in my sps in a .243 after being reloaded once. I found using nickleplated brass was the solution to my problem, but I mainly think my loads were little hot and minimized my casing life on standard brass. This happens to my nickle plated as well after the 5th time the casing been reloaded.

Remington 700 series rifles are prone to many mechanical problems as they were designed as an inexpensive option to Mauser-type rifles which cost far more to manufacture and thus could be sold at a lower price point.

They CAN be made into light, very accurate and strong rifles, but, jams, extraction/ejection problems and accidental discharges due to the trigger design are well-known and can be a REAL pita.

Your problem sounds like galling of the boltlugs due to improper fitting and this CAN be exacerbated by several quick shots warming the action just enough to tighten tolerances slightly. You NEED to take this rifle to a competent smith who can examine and repair it.

Also, check behind your extractor for buildup of debris and also see that your ejector is not sticking due to rust or crud and thus sticking a bit too far to easily close your bolt on a round. Have your firing pin protrusion checked and look for burrs on your chamber entry ramp as well.

Are you shooting handloads or factory?

yes these are factory loaded shells. they are hard going in and out of the chamber. after extracting the brass there is slight score marks on them, but nothing symetrical, kind of all over the place, some go all the way to the neck of the case, some only part way. checked bolt lugs, found identical score marks on the sides of the lugs, and looks like small pin holding extractor clip into end of bolts slightly protruding out. hmmmm... not using grease on bolt lugs, just oil.
