Here's a side view of the last pic. I tried changing the lighting on the camera and it still didn't help the pic quality.

There re a few posts here that suggest that some of the antelope will grow until the end of summer. Sorry boys, but for all your " up and comers" you are hoping will be bigger by fall, they are as good as they will get this year. Unlike deer, antelope actually grow there horns in late fall, shedding their outer sheaths in late Nov-early Dec. By the end of March the growth is about done. They will then only harden up until July. What you see now, is what you will see this fall.

I think you are mistaken, they will grow up until the end of July. The hair hardens and the bases will get bigger and the tops will grow. They just don’t explode in growth like antlers do. Lots of times in October the sheathing is loose. So remember if you are dragging a pronghorn it’s best not to drag them very far as not only do you risk popping the sheath off, but you also risk damaging the hair.

I agree . The last one i shot in 2008 was only dragged a few feet and by the time it was in the pickup i had both sheathes in my pants pocket

Go on the internet and you will get the science behind antelope horn growth, it's pretty clear.

Once again I think you are mistaken Barry. The curl and the paddle are done growing in march, so what you see for curl and paddle is what you get, but the horn will still gain length and will gain weight provided it's not super dry out.

Great Pics sure helps getting us all excited for draw results Hate waiting till August 7th even though pretty confident with the draw priority I have going but stranger things have happened. Hopefully we can make a trip down in July to start acquiring permission.

I really appreciate this thread. I should be drawn this year and it's nice to see these pics, especially for us guys that don't live anywhere near antelope.

When they shed, how much is left of the pedicel after ?
I’ve never seen them in the wintertime myself

They continually grow and the new horn pops the old horn off and I'd say 2-3" of new horn when they pop off.

not a pedicle like a deer or elk or moose per say, the horn core extends from the skull like a big horn sheep but not as thick or not much curve to them, kinda like a spiker WT.

Don't let low cutters fool you, as you you will still get two circumference measurements under the cutters. When I'm looking at a pronghorn, I look for horns that really hook over at the top, because a nice deep hook means a ton more length. This is what really fools people ( yea that pronghorn doesn't look very talk, but he really hooks over) that what you think looks like a 13" tall horn could be a 15 1/2" just because of a deep hook. Then I look for weight and then good cutters. This can fool you too. Just because he doesn't have good cutters doesn't mean the cutters won't score good. A pronghorn with lots of weight probably has better cutters than you think the cutters are just lost in the weight. Pronghorn are one of the most difficult to judge.
