Default Windshield Replacement question...

Gang,

I just had my windshield replaced ('06 Mazda 6 Wagon) and I've noticed quite a few small bubble like imperfections in the glass... Is this normal and/or did they just use cheap glass?!

Should I call them and bring it up?

Cost was just shy of $200...

Chinese made glass.

It's not normal, it's most likely bubbles in the vinyl layer. If they don't bother you and you can live with it, tell them they can just refund you the money or tell them to replace it with a new one. They might lose less money just giving it to you.

Thanks for all the responses!

I'd say aftermarket POS that will chip in 6 months and leak.....not that it happened to me. Cost me $1100 to put an OEM windshield in my '15 Subaru!!!

Yup pretty much figured it was made off shore (for $200 don't expect much). Pretty reputable company however, so if it leaks they'll stand by it! If it lasts a year I'll be happy. The original one I just replaced lasted 9 years, but that was because I put off replacing it for at least 3! LoL

Well I hope it's better then the pos original windshield in my 2012 Subie, it chips and cracks when bugs hit it. I'll go aftermarket this summer.

I've had decent life out of xyg, pretty sure glass masters put it in for me. It is probably a bit soft maybe, seems to pit a little quicker, but man can it take a hit. Rocks just about bounce off the stuff, and no chips or stars.

This.

OP
Call them and let them know. You will likely get it replaced under warranty.

All glass needs to meet a certain spec before it can be sold and installed on vehicles.

I use the cheaper glass shop and have never had an issue with them. All my windshields are $210.00 installed. I have used the same shop for multiple vehicles.

I have a hard time spending $400.00 more on a windshield when some clown at a glass shop tries to sell me on value and how it is not "cheap Chinese glass". There are only a few windshield glass suppliers in Edmonton..

Take that and extrapolate what you will...

Haven't had a windshield replaced for some time now.

Anyone have any recommendations for a shop in west Edmonton?

Some windshields are still made in the US. You may pay a bit more but you get what you pay for. Distortion around the edges and bubbles in the vinyl layers seem to be common complaints.
I heard that line before about all that offshore glass needs to meets specs and if it doesn't who makes them?

Did this come with a 8 ball and a "full service". Cause I might then maybe consider it.

Go back, not supposed to be there. We used Speedy Glass at the bodyshop i used to work at, got a new one for my truck and when i picked it up i noticed a bubble or two. Showed it to them and I was offered the glass for free and live with it or they would replace free of charge. Two tiny bubbles out of my view meant I got a free glass. This was a few years back. I would go back and see what they say about it.
