Default Question about tanneries

So a recent conversation got me to thinking... Trappers can only sell tanned furs to individuals not raw pelts. Does a tannery need a license to accept hides for tanning? I do some brain tanning (all my own hunted ungulates) but could I tan someone else's trapped fur? Things I lay awake at night thinking about ....

I thought about this as well. You'd need a $100 fur buyers license to legally buy raw fur.

If you are accepting fur just to tan it, not buy it, I would think you would just need to keep documentation of the fur you are handling, such as pelt owners name and appropriate licence numbers. Call F&W to make sure.

I'm sure they'll have some kind of permit to sell you, and like a fur dealer licence, your facility will have to be approved. They desire to have the legal right to perform inspections, and can only do so in a structure that is not attached to your dwelling.
