Default Wolf, Coyote or Hybrid?

This photo was taken by someone that I know in Nova Scotia. He claims that it is a big Eastern coyote but while living in NB, QC and ON I've never seen a yote this big. What do you think? Is it a wolf, coyote or a hybrid (Coydog)?

The picture helps me to understand how that young lady hiking on the Cabot Trail last year was mauled to death by a couple of coyotes.

Estimating a whitetail buck that size to weight around 140 lbs....I'd say a wolf. And the dogs muzzle doesn't seem pointed enough to be a coyote.

I'm not sure if that is a yote. I'm far from an expert but I'm leaning towards wolf but that's jsut based on the size. It does kind of look like a yote head though. If that's a coyote it's the largest one I have ever seen! Thanks for posting.

That is a question that is being studied all across eastern North America. Genetic analysis IS showing a regular occurance of Wolf AND Domestic canine specific alleles ( genes) in coyotes.

I didn't read the whole thread but out in 160 just east of little fish lake there was a wolf shot and they are checkin into the hybrid status. It was in the paper as wolves are rare around here there might be a link on drumhelleronline.com or .ca not positive but the wolf was 6ft from tail to nose and weighed 125lbs when I get home from work ill find it if no0ne finds it
