Sorry for your loss crazyfish.

I had a good friend and hunter/mentor pal pass away quite a few years ago. He survived WWII and being blown out of an anti tank unit when the rest of his crew perished, only to pass away shortly after having surgery. What the enemy couldn't do, a blood clot post surgery did. He was always teaching and showing me hunting and trapping stuff and I cherish the time I did get to spend with him. You will always have the memories you shared with your Uncle to fall back on. Who knows, as time passes, you may get the opportunity and be in the same situation your Uncle was and find yourself passing on your knowledge to another young guy.

Sorry to learn of your loss.

My father is not an outdoorsmen, but learned when I was in early gradeschool, that I was a fanatic about fish and the fishing shows on TV.

Took my down to the NSR, with a rod he had bought for me at canadian tire. A Bobber, a small 1/32 oz paddletail jig, in clear purple with silver flecks.... cast it out and handed me the rod, caught my very first NSR Goldeye that day in Grade 3........first fish ever in wild waters. He is still shocked that I can remember the exact setup and color of jig. He did start my hunting career by taking me to shoot gophers on the farm.

Sorry for your loss... My dad was a great mentor for me and he still enjoys hearing about my hunting trips now, even though he hasn't hunted in several years.

crazy,
i feel your loss. my mentor was the same as yours, my uncle. the first time he took me fishing i was 3 years old. we fished and hunted together for 36 years, until we lost him to a massive heat attack may 26, 2008. i'm just now getting to the point where the tears don't well up every time i think of him, it's starting to become a smile when i think of all of the times we spent together. no one should ever have to lose their hero.
i'm sorry for your loss.

Default sorry to hear

Sorry for your loss, but glad to hear of all the great memories. I still can remember floating in the canoe with my dad on lakes in Northern Sask. or the first time he took me out to practice on clays with my new shotgun, goose hunting, grouse hunting etc. He too passed away too young.

Think I gotta go back to Northern Sask this summer for some fishing and memories.

Sorry for your losses, crazy. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my gramps, and all that he taught me in the bush.

Default In remembrance

My Uncle Gordon, from Manitoba passed away back in June of 2010 just a few weeks from announcing his planned retirement. He was 63 an avid hunter and fisherman devoted to his Grandchildren whom he adored,my Aunt had not heard from him in several hours so she asked my uncle Sid to go out to the cabin to check on him. My uncle found his brother on the floor with his cell phone still in his pocket. He perished from a massive heart attack while preparing the cabin on Clear lake for the many family fishing trips that would be coming up soon. I have so many fond memories of him taking us all out fishing and he was just so happy to have anyone around that was into the outdoors. Miss you Uncle Gord, your family is well.
