Looking to take my kids out to SEE some elk. As Far As I am concerned they are like Unicorn. They do Not exist . Looking to take the kids out in the next couple weeks in a 100 km radius of white court and area.

Thank you.

Look for destroyed bail fields and elk highways heading into the bush. They winter in the drainage bottoms. 1st and last light are your only chance of seeing them. It's only gonna get worse for seeing them as the moon heads towards full again. Once the moon lights up the night all their activity will be at night

Good luck.
I've seen one all year with lots of backroads driven.

I had a general. That's expired. Two years in a row I have not even seen an elk. Just wanted to go for a drive with the 3 kids and see what we could see!

Yes. My buddy was in on the first week of Suffield. It was maddening. They only really had one opportunity at a cow that week. They were getting set up and a range truck ran straight at the elk and spooked them off.

Most of the time the cows were in the out of limits area on the base.

Welcome to the wonderful world of elk hunting ;p Patience, it'll happen, took me 7 yrs of hunting them before I connected on one. You could try the national parks if you want to simply observe them.

go south of whitecourt, cross the McLeod river , first road on top of the hill, I believe its township rd 545A go east bout 5 miles big field on the rt hand side ,
just past the elk fence , there is a heard of about 75 wild elk feeding in that field, been there all summer and all fall.

Glass any of the fields south of Whitecourt on hwy 32 in the Shinning Bank lake area at first or last light. Like the others said look for bails that are torn apart, tracks crossing the roads or lots of tracks in the fields.

With the cold and snow the last little bit they will be grouped and should be feeding a little later into the day.
