Default Mosquito Anti Loitering Device.

I was talking to my daughter who had stepped out of the library into the doorway so she could talk to me on her cell phone. I asked her what the noice in the background was, and she told me that a lot of places are now installing this Mosquito Alarm system to deter young people from hanging around and to keep vagrants from sleeping in the doorways at night.
I had never heard of this before, but if you get a chance watch the u-tube video about it. Very interesting.
Maybe someone could post the link here for us.

Arrow Mosquito Anti Loitering Device . . .

I've never heard about them before, but I guess they've been around for a while ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0ZsZSSSswo

Made by a company called Compound Security Systems ... https://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/s...itering-device

Apparently, they really work!

You haven't heard of it because if over 25 years old you can't hear it.

The "mosquito tone" is a nickname for a sound that is devised to be so high-pitched that only younger people can hear it. As people age, they gradually lose some of their hearing (a phenomenon called presbycusis), and their hearing naturally loses sensitivity to higher frequencies. So the older you are, the less likely you are to be able to hear higher frequency sounds (or, the louder they will need to be before you are able to hear them).

Know them from Europe, they work, however there have been cases in court with people randomly installing them and driving neighbors crazy. Google should bring up some cases from the UK.
I remember some tried using them at train or bus stations but the noise didn't just bother teenagers. Some places now play classical at loud volume to drive away loitering kids which kind of worked better

Let me get this straight.

There is a device that I could have plugged inside my house when my teenagers turned 18 that would have got them to leave? Doh!

And that's just one acoustic method, there are plenty of more to 'keep streets and places clean'...

You're half right!

The homeless are given earplugs

I read about this but thought maybe it was an urban myth. Apparently some high school students use this tone as a ringtone so the teachers can't hear it.

I guess it's considered more humane than the "brown sound".
