I really enjoy winter camping and my set up is basic
I sleep in the back of my truck with a topper on it
I run an electric heater off my generator that keeps me toasty
how ever last time I went some how I poked a hole in my air mattress
I usually camp in the Mclean creek area and I'm always up for some more company.

You're not camping if you bring a generator. Gotta wake up in the middle of the night and hear the wolves howling, or just the sounds of Silence. By the way, foam mat is much better insulation than air mattress.

You would not of had much fun or a blast on the ice at Chestermere Saturday without a chimney and a tarp, -15, stiff wind.
It is a mean miserable existence to try to cook, eat and sleep by an open fire when the wind blows and it is cold.

I have wood for you to burn in the stoves if that is a problem.
All shelters are low, sit on a mat height, so bring a mat for sitting
on the snow.
About twenty five years ago my friends and I each built a wiki up shelter in a favorite location.
I made it out that way over the summer and a lot of the poles looked like they could still be usable
I'm thinking about going back out for a couple of days for a good traditional turkey roast.
For those who are not familiar with a wiki up shelter here's a video I just finished watching on how to make a better bed to put in one.
I watched all the videos he made to complete this shelter, I would definitely like to use some of his ideas !
yeah I was thinkin about trying it this year. just gotta get some more gear together and off I go.
Its best to go with more ppl I bet but everyone I know are to scared for not many ppl or no one will be around. Or its too cold. Or you got to watch out for the crazies.
Still got few months to prepare plus if I find a spot by a lake to ice fish, gives me something to do.
Is there any groups anyone heard of that get together and go set up camp somewhere?
Crazies? camping in winter? never thought about it-what do you mean exactly? other than keeping warm I've never considered other dangers. I was thinking of trying a cold weather camping trip.....
I have been winter camping since I was 8 years old. The key is staying warm and I don't ever recall being cold, you would be amazed on how good of sleep you get. Things have come a long ways since I was young though, my first trip we got stuck in the snow going up the mountain in a early 80s Toyota land cruiser but we made it to camp. Slept in my ginch with an old canvas tent and sleeping bag. I can still remember falling asleep with the silhouette of a huge Bon fire through the tent and the hippy music playing with people talking and laughing. Toasty warm
