Default Could you take off shotgun choke?

Ok I'm thinking that the choke (as in 30 inch full choke barrel) is in the last few inches of the barrel......could it be shortened 2" to remove the choke for steel shot use. I would still have a 28" barrel......could even put interchangeable choke on it then.

Just wondering. And also what it would cost for a smith to do it.

Depending on the 'smith, anywhere from $150 to $225.
Some relieve the forcing cones at the same time if they need it.

I'd personally have the choke reamed

If you like the gun and shoot it well then have chokes installed. This is cheaper than a new barrel, if available, or another shotgun.
