Default CTD, what does the oil change minder measure?

I have an 11 CTD, bare stock. I don`t drive it much but change the oil annually or 8000km. My last change was in December and have since driven 3000km, the other day the oil change message came on the display. I had reset the minder after my last change so the oil was nowhere near due on miles.

I reset the message but it got me thinking, what does this thing measure? It can't be time and if it was mileage it would be wrong...does it actually monitor oil condition? If so, how and what is it looking for.

At 7 yrs old with just over 100k, I'm planning to keep it a while.

It uses out side temp, engine temp. stop and go. How many starts, km, etc.
To come up with its oil change minder.
They have a dealer setting where they can change the parameters to short or long interval.
I change mine every 10,000km and usually reset the minder every 6000km

Oil minders seem to measure my presence in my wife's vehicle.

I think you’re talking about the speed minder!

im curious as well. My '11 CTD is currently at 12k and 2 months between oil change and the reminder still hasn't come on. I usually go around 12k for oil changes. Mostly highway and 4hr trips.

I don't know about other vehicles, but on my 2010 JK Wrangler I can shut off the reminder by powering on the key ( not starting) and push the gas pedal to the floor three times fast within 10 seconds , then shutting off.

Just a tip. Maybe that works on other vehicles.

on my 2012 it was right around 7-8K km when the evic would put the message up for an oil change as it does monitor hours/km and regens
not that the dpf is deleted it will go off between 12-14K km depending on
how many hiway km

That doesn't shut off the reminder....it resets your oil life monitor.

With my CTD, I change my oil when the oil life monitor goes off. It's usually between 12k and 14k, give or take.

Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. 415k on truck. Doesn't burn a drop of oil in-between changes.

Good luck.
