Default Remote kill switch help

Want to wire a remote kill switch on a number of small Honda water pumps. The current switch looks like this

You can see where I cut the wire and put in another switch to test but this doesn’t work. Can’t turn the pump off with either one when the 2nd switch is in line. Anyone help me out ?

If the switch shorts out the spark plug to the engine, which is what it looks like with only one wire to the switch, then the switches need to be in parallel, not in series as you had then hooked up. Think of that switch as one of the metal strips on the cylinder head, that you used to push against the spark plug on some small engines to shut them off.

Do you have, or can you get, a wiring diagram for that unit? And a control schematic should be available too.

Problem is, when people start chopping out stuff and or putting in signal routes because it kinda/sorta looks like it works a certain way, you could end up making all sorts of changes you never expected.

Any changes you make should then be 'as built' into those diagram(s) too for future reference, with explanations of why & what you wanted to achieve. Even for yourself. Nobody remembers all the tweaks they've made after a couple of years.

when its on its disconnected from the ground, when its off it connects to the ground which kills the plug. take all the wires off the original switch, extend them to where you want and hook one wire from the new switch to the block (wire from the original switch) of the motor and the other to the coil (one of the wires from the original switch).
