I suppose that is why Brian is not in the shadow cabinet.

Thinking that they have no chance for reelection is an attitude that will get them reelected.

I think you will find that when the UPC policies are finalized they will be new and it will be the WR joining them. New party, new policies, they have been writing the drafts for months now.

Brian asked not to have a position. Wants to focus on constituency. He lost his house 18 months ago and still hasn't looked at the plans for the new one according to the news report.
So we'll see what happens with policy. If they dont go true conservative with privatization in the health and education sectors, I'll be pretty ****ed. Need to fix these systems, and give people choices.

IMO the biggest reason the people did not vote for the PC was because they became very arrogant, ignorant and corrupt not because they went left.
The WR are no more they are part of the UPC, where are they going to go? The reason they joined was because they couldn't win the province on their own. It was just recently confirmed the people prefer a previous PC by a substantial amount over the WR to lead the new party.

Well prepare yourself. I doubt the party wants to get trounced at the ballot box, which is what such proposals would get them.

What has happened has been a very effective/well organized takeover of the WR party by the powerful, old line PC Blue machine. History repeats itself. This happened in any number of AB federal constituencies where the Reform party showed that a breakthrough was likely going to happen in the 1992 federal election. In AB, the Blue Machine was not about to allow new, hardworking, upstart reformers who were seeking real/much needed change to go to Ottawa. In many constituencies, reform candidates were simply PC blues who opted/were chosen to run as federal reformers and who got the full backing of the blue machinery - Harper and Kenney included. Who were two of the Reform Party head office engineers in Calgary during all of this in the late '80s - why Jason Kenney & Stephen Harper. The breakthrough in '92 did happen so a whole bunch of newly minted AB Reformers (actually many of whom really were part of the Blue Machinery) went to Ottawa. The UCP really is a re-incarnation of the Blue Machine here in AB and those who do not see it may well be about to get an education. The latter - Kenney included - tried very hard to get Bill Smith elected as mayor but were soundly rejected. The PC party was loudly rejected in the last provincial election for many reasons - but has it learned anything yet? Are they going to be any more successful in winning Alberta in the next election - only time will tell. What will be very interesting - the by-election in Calgary Lougheed. A donkey could have won this PC seat a while back had it been the PC candidate. In the last election - the vote was significantly split between Conservative and WR. Where are all the votes going to go next time around - only time will tell. Hopefully the voters in this constituency are paying more than a little attention when this by-election happens.

Finally!! I can't believe this is the first time through all this JK/BJ/PC/WR stuff that I've seen this posted.
Deja vu all over again. History repeating itself and everyone standing there in awe.

So people wont vote for a healthcare system where you wont have to wait 8 hours in an ER? Or an education system where talented kids actually have a choice of going to an art school or hockey school or people of faith can send their kids for an education consistent with their beliefs? I think you're wrong. And the problem with healthcare is only going to get worst with the aging population.

With regard to education, your dream already exists. You can send your kid to a hockey school or a religious school.
When you say something should be privatized I assume you mean that the user will pay, not the state. Maybe you should clarify what you want the UPC to do. What do you mean by privatize?
