Default 6.7 cummins

My 2010 6.7 Cummins coolant temperature seems to be running to cool all I'm getting is 83 degrees Celsius. I'm pretty sure that my mechanical gauge used to be in the middle now it's below. Any ideas would be apreciated

Winter time? I'm sure that doesn't help but my coolant temp on a 5.9 fluctuates quite a bit with outside temperature

Your thermostat is probably stuck open. My 2010 runs up to 100 then drops down to 92-93 when the thermostat opens.

The mechanical gauges are dummy gauges. If your PC is reading a bad temp, that could be an issue but the mech's are basically for too low, good, and too high. They're a horrible indicator.

Hate to say it but sounds like your head gasket is blown out. Had this happen on my 6.7 Cummins, you could try and replace the thermostat first and cross your fingers it’s that

I would replace your thermostat (very simple) on your engine. See if that helps. Depending on outside ambient temperature you can also get a winter front to put in front of your rad and help keep that cold air from passing through your rad. I wouldn’t say your head gasket is blown.

If your head gasket was blown you would be losing coolant and your truck would be blowing white smoke

You realize these trucks give you a digital temp readout in the multi function display right?

Wouldn’t condemn a head gasket based off this. Running a whole fleet of 6.7s and this is normal due to outside temp. My truck (5500) sits at 83-85 once warmed up all day. In the summer this is about 95.

Head gasket would run hot or mimic it running hot. You can buy different temp thermostats. I would buy a hotter one for winter so you have good heat and if you do lots of towing in summer you can put a cooler one in.

Yup that's why I said if the PC is reading a bad temp you have a problem. Was just pointing out that you shouldn't trust the mechanical gouges.

82*C is 180*F and that’s what the 6.7’s come with no? You could try a 88* or 90*C t-stat which is a 190-195*F stat however I would talk to Dodge first and see if there might be a bulletin about putting in a hotter t-stat.

Well easy change on thermostat on this 6.7 isn't the easiest the crossover tube on the ecg is a bugger to remove the clamps that are on there are very hard to remove so my project will need to wait tell tomorrow to finish.Fingers crossed

You might try a winter front on truck keeps the operating temperature somewhat higher, you also get better milage. A piece of cardboard with 6 inch circle cut out in middle makes good poor mans winter front.
