Default LX-7 on boat

I'm planning on mounting my lx-7 on my boat for the summer. Anybody else do this? I just need to grab the new transducer from The Fishin' Hole and I'm good to go.

What else have you guys done? I need to find a mounting bracket and then wire it in to a battery.

Anything else I'm missing? Have any of you run these units and what was your experiences?

Thanks.

You should check with Super Mario. If I remember right I have seen some pics that he has posted with his Marcum hooked up in his boat.

It would be wise to mount the transducer to a 1/2" thick slab of puck board/plastic. That way if you ever rip your transducer off, or need to change to a new one, you can drill/redrill into the plastic and not put any unwanted holes in your transom. The plastic can be epoxied on or attached with bolts.

Funny I went about this adventure this very afternoon. Called FH - double checked that they indeed had the right transducer - made the drive - they had a different "version" - asked them to check it to an LX-7 - didn't have one - long story short got home and it was the wrong one - despite being labelled properly (not by marcum but by FH staff). I should have brought the LX-7 with me. My bad.

Still lookin' for the right transducer - suppossed to be $130 - if you can find one.

Might have to order from RadioWorld in Toronto....pretty scarce in YYC it seems

Was out looking tonight for a cutting board for just this purpose.

I'll look into the transducer and get ahold of Mario.

Have you located the proper transducer in Edmonton?

The Marcum Part number is: ULXDBT
Description: LX Series Universal Open Water Dual Beam Transducer w/Temp Sensor Kit

Beware of the VX series of transducers, they will not work.

Let me know if you find any up in Edm.....not having any luck down in YYC.

Finally made it to The Fishin' Hole and picked up my transducer. They had the right one. No model number on it but here is a picture of the sku and some info.

Not sure if they have more in stock but they can get them. Picked up from edmonton south store.

Bonus, it comes with the power cord.

Now time to get to work.

Are you mounting your camera to your trolling motor? Lol

I got all the parts except the gimbal mount. It's getting ordered Monday and until then I'll take the one out of the soft case cradle and mount it to a ram or Scotty mount. Can't wait to mount the stuff next weekend and get the boat wet.

If you truly want the benefits of a flasher in open water you have to think like you do in the winter. Mounting the transducer to your transom or any other part of the boat totally defeats the purpose. That is to be able to see your lure in real time.

What you need to do is run the transducer cable along a boom away from the boat. Attached the cable to a hockey stick that is placed in a rod holder. You can adjust the length of the boom (hockey stick) and the depth of the transducer.

The whole premise is that you're using a 6 foot+ long rod therefore you want the rod tip far from the boat and be able to control the placement of the lure. Which is in the sonar cone.

And you want to be sitting comfortably, not having to lean over or sitting back to keep the rod tip just off the boat where a transom mounted transducer would be.

For the record, I've been doing the above for about 6 years. Works likitty split!

The lx-7 has a chart mode as well. That's what I'll be using while driving and trolling. If I'm anchored with the ipilot and jigging in cold lake I can swap it to flasher mode.

The fishin hole always comes through
