Fishing For Kids Around Calgary

As you can see from the picture below, my 9 yr old is wanting to do some fishing this year. Looking for some recommendations for some good spots to take the kids out to.

We've walked out around Lt Lorette Ponds before, is there some page that shows when it get's stocked each year?

This might be what you are looking for, although the dates for 2014 haven't been updated yet. Usually they stock right before the long weekend in a lot of lakes.

nose creek park in airdrie is stocke dewitts pond near airdrie and crossfield pond is stocked as well . you could also try bruce lake for pike

In town there is a pond in Pearce Estate Park that they stock, it opens May 15

wait a week (until it's open) and take him to Pine Coulee reservoir. best children's fishery around if you don't mind spoiling him. Chunk of smelt on a 1/4oz jig dropped off the dock.

I've heard that Pine Coulee is practically dead these days. Anyone else here this? Most of the reports over the ice fishing season weren't very good.

Pine coulee is always slower in the winter. Most of the complaints were about lack of burbs. I'd bet there's still plenty of eyes in there.

I'm sure you're right about it fishing slower in the winter. I only made my comment because of my only trip out there this winter.... we had the MarCum set up and didn't flash a single fish. I think there was about 20 people set up in the same general area, just off the boat launch, and as far as I could tell not many, if any, fish were being caught that day. Just about every ice fishing report I read over this past winter was pretty negative, so I am just trying to caution the OP to do additional research with hopes his boy isn't disappointed.

Chain lakes south.

Stocked rainbows with outdoor toilets and easily walkable shoreline for the most part.

Size 12 snelled hook with some bait usually will produce something.

Mt Lorette Ponds were stocked with rainbows on May 5.
