I'm sure you're right about it fishing slower in the winter. I only made my comment because of my only trip out there this winter.... we had the MarCum set up and didn't flash a single fish. I think there was about 20 people set up in the same general area, just off the boat launch, and as far as I could tell not many, if any, fish were being caught that day. Just about every ice fishing report I read over this past winter was pretty negative, so I am just trying to caution the OP to do additional research with hopes his boy isn't disappointed.
