Default Propane tank recertification

Hey folks,

I got a couple of 20lbs. Tanks I want to get recertified. Does anyone know where I can get these done in Edmonton? Also, how much?

Not interested in those gas station exchanges.

Thanks

I just got a 40 pound done at mutual propane, Edm. They do not re certify 20 pounders.

It`s less hassle and cheaper to drop your old rusties off with the kid at Wall Mart for an exchange then to go the recert route.

I've had issues with the propane exchange cylinders. For some reason they don't refill. Am I the only one to experience this?

Not if you refill at Costco for $7ea 20lbr, or $10 for a 30lbr

My recommendation: Refill your tank, unless it is out of date (and cannot be legally refilled without recertification).

If it is out of date, exchange it.

Make sure you get one that's not under filled.

Just buy a new tank and get it filled at Costco.
Cheapest and easiest route.

Bought two new ones at Costmo, had them filled, done...Their tanks also have a gauge at the valve but it is kinda Mickey-Mouse.

7 at costco? thats great im paying 18 a refill a 20lber, might have to go to costco.
on a slight tangent, i just got a $450 quote to recert a 500 gallon to bring it to current (pressure) specs.
once they have that rating they do not ever need recert.
i find that kind of strange that a huge capacity device needs nothing yet a manhandlable container does...of course its probably money

You can't exchange an out of date tank at exchange centers.

Got a 10 pounder recertified for 36. , cause I like the size and they're uncommon. Did buy a new 20 pounder for about 4 bucks more, not worth the hassle of recertification. Good for 10 years.

Not all of them check the dates on the bottles, easy enough to play dumb if they catch you.

True. For that matter, just find a place that has a bunch on display outside and grab one. If they catch you just say "Oh I thought my wife paid for it inside".

Substantial fine for violation, not many places left that are careless about checking dates.

I think that would come under the definition of, Theft of less than 5000.

Sure, might as well fill up the truck as well.

I have tanks that are over forty years old, and two that are over fifty years old, that have never been recertified and are still in use and not leaking. I fill my own.

Watch the dates on the exchangeable ones.I got one that had 1985 on it .Didn't notice it until I returned for another exchange. They were not going to do it and I told them I had received it this way from them not even a month previous. They fought with me right up until I showed them 2 more in their cage with 1987 and 1990.Funny how that works, what do they do ?just spray paint them

Yep, exchange centres took tanks over 10 yrs old, but you may get the same back unless you check.
Seems if a tank has the exchange yellow and green label, they are likely the ones you got from them previously,
so they take them again on exchange.
But other places may not fill them, so I like to ensure mine have good dates.

Would that be the same charge for knowingly defrauding a store out of a new tank?
No exchange program takes old tanks. Having one place do it by accident one time is no different than a gas jockey accidentally refilling an expired tank...it doesn't mean "yes they take them"

I got the perfect solution.
I bought an old hunting trailer that has a 2 way regulator. I fill up the good bottle and attach to the trailer regulator. Open both bottles and the propane flows from one bottle to the other. I think they equalize so I get the old bottle half full
Maybe I should just go buy a new bottle

Just for curiosity next time you fill one leave the empty on the ground and see if it fills fully or at least much more. Same principal works on the one pounders I fill with an adapter. Some local farmers fill their smaller bottles out of their large tanks.

Think I posted on this a few years ago. Got my tanks re-certified at COOP. Forget the cost, but it was reasonable, and included a tank fill as well. Re-cert was done while I stood there (only a few minutes).

How is this a solution? You're still only able to have 20lbs of propane. Either in one full one (the good one) or two tanks filled halfway!!
Crikey...take $30 and go buy a new one!
The cost of re-certification is almost the same as a brand spankin' new tank!!
.....hacks on how to cheap out on a big mac...how to save $5 for a 10 yr old tank...
What a bunch of cheapskate on its forum.
