Cruise control in F350...
Just crapped out on the way home. What makes them tick?

Check the fuse first, after that it could be a few things, speed sensor, brake switch, etc. The truck may have thrown a code as well, could hook up a reader to see if there is anything.

Check fuse but try it again after it was shut off. Fords will sometimes turn off completely from a real big bump and not start working again till the truck is restarted. It is a safety issue re hitting the ditch at speed, etc. For safety, Ford has far and away the best cruise control, and I am no Ford fan.

Are you pulling a trailer? May have a light burnt out. Unplug the trailer. Shut off truck start retry. Don't laugh.

Guys thanks for the info and input. The truck is a 2010 Power Stroke V8 Diesel. The list of fuses in the manual says nothing about a fuse for cruise control or speed control. As for the idea of a restart, I had thought of that and will check out that theory on my way to work tomorrow.
No trailer.

Just had the cruise on my 2011 CTD crap out me as well. It ended up being a faulty brake switch kicking in and out which didn't allow the cruise to be set.

Is your horn working? Airbag light on? Everything goes through the clockspring . They can break.
May be the switches on the steering wheel. Best find a shop that can monitor the PIDS to see what's going on. Can have a button not working. Check for your brake lights staying on. Many things can cruise not to work.

I have a 2001 CTD and cruise also stopped working. The HVAC vent switch also stopped working properly. And the crankcase vent tube on the bottom of the engine was blowing out so much oil vapour that it looked like I had a small fire underneath my truck.
Turned out to be one vacuum line had come loose that caused all three of those problems.

Same thing used to happen from time to time with my Duramax. Like the computer just had to restart and every thing was fine

Just replaced the brake switch on my duramax. Over time the cruise control was getting more and more erratic. Swapped out switch ($20) - good as new.
I'd imagine same issue with yours.

There are 2 brake switches - one on/off switch on the pedal (for the lamps) and a pressure transducer on the master cylinder. That pressure sensor is used for the cruise system and the factory trailer brake controller (if equipped). Do your own due diligence as far as electrical diag goes, but I have replaced a few of those transducers in my day.
