Default Over night ice tent

Some of you might have seen my ice shelter I put on Alberta Fishing Addicts but if you haven’t here it is. I just wanted to try this out and see how it would work for some of the trips I do that are just to long of a day to travel for 2-2.5hrs one way to fish all day and come home the same day it’s just to tiring so I put this tent together. When I’m ready to get a new tent I will definitely go full thermal but I had this tent kicking around the house and I never used it to often so I thought it was perfect for the experiment.

Looks good. Next best piece of kit would be stacking cots.

Question tho. Why wouldn’t you have made the stove jack fit a window? With Velcro all around it so window could be reinstalled?

Turns out it’s a pain in the ass getting 5” black stove pipe where I live and I wasn’t sure if I could get the proper draft for the stove to work. The stove came with all the stove pipe and this set up so far tested in my backyard works really good.

Are sparks going to be an issue, like said before you can go out a window. Looks great should work good. Thanks for posting. Dogfish

I have the same stove and ordered some 5" elbows and pipe from Home Hardware. They don't stock it but can get it fairly quickly. I wanted the chimney to go out the wall of my ice shack instead of the roof. It's not a long chimney and it only draws ok, it would work better as a straight run up through the roof.

With the wind we get down south here I'd rope it down real good. How is the chimney secured? Should be cozy .

I have 10ft for the stove and never had spark problems yet but I just received a welders blanket that I order on line that’s 6x12ft so I’m going to throw that over top. Going out the window for me was more work and material that I wasn’t interest in doing again. I tried it with a smaller stove but the problem was the stove itself. The roof option is working very good so far. It gets execellent draft.

I had a pretty windy day here while I had it set up with winds gusting to 50km and it held up good. I had every anchor point being used though cause I couldn’t chance it collapsing or flying away. It’s a must to anchor every point if your using this stove. The stove has the roof securing it and sheet metal screws . It held up just fine this way.

Great mod on your ice tent!

Could almost use that for a quick hunting tent too, especially if you toss a tarp on top. Was thinking of using my ice fishing tent for this year's hunt - it's a double and would have been big enough. Seeing your wood stove setup is inspiring!

That would be cool to see. Do you have pics or a drawing of how he did it?

I use mine as a tent just as much as I use it for ice fishing, during hunting season and steelhead fishing in the spring, works great, in cold weather (obviously not so great with the heat and bugs lol)...only thing to be mindful about is the tent bottom will experience a lot more wear and abrasion, ie the corners where the poles sit...I've had to patch a few of them, real pain to hand stitch that stuff....my new pop up I've spread a layer of rubber shoe goop over them, hoping that will help slow the wear

Thanks, I’ve never actually had an I tent out in the rain before but it might work good as it is.

great mod to the fishing tent, but you might need a piece of tin, to keep the wall from melting, if you need one I have a piece I can spare

Thanks for the offer I might try that as a precaution . I’ve burned the stove twice now in the tent and the wall wasn’t hot at all. The outside temp must have kept the wall cooler.
