I'm looking for a stock maker to do up a stock for a project gun I have. I have blanks of maple from my grandfather's farm in Nova Scotia that I want to have on the rifle (yes they have been properly seasoned, aged, dried, etc.) and would like suggestions of someone who's done good work in the past. They would have to be able to make it, not just replicate a current stock as I'm looking for a few things I can't seem to find on most stocks (shadow line cheek rest, Schnabeled (sp?) for end, etc.)

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Preferably someone in Western Canada but not required, and I really don't want to ship to the US.

Jakob at Calgary Shooting Centre is a German trained master gunsmith specializing in wood work. His stocks are spectacular. He also has a stock replicator which would speed up alot of the inletting and keep prices down.

Gary Flach in BC

Be careful there are lots of hacks claiming to be stockmakers.

DG: that's why I'm looking for referrals here rather than google searching.

How much do you want to spend? Shadow lines, forend tips, checkering, type of finish, how fussy are you? You could spend anywhere from a couple hundred for some hack to butcher it to several thousand for a work of art.

Default David Henry

Every stock I have seen from David Henry has been a piece of art. My search would begin and end in Bentley if I wanted something special.

I don't want to detract from the original post but what would something like building a stock cost. Say from Gary in BC or Dave?

I am looking at building a 98 mauser, 416 rigby but would like to have a custom stock built.

Bus heat: if the work is good than I'm willing to pay for what it's worth. This will be an heirloom rifle for my kids.
