Cannot be consistent and seem to gravitate to the manufacturer of savages. Savage center fire, not rimfire that’s another problem.
Unfortunaly I can only achieve two groups that meet the challenges, then they break up.
Can’t post if I cannot meet.
But I use your threads as motivation.
Thank you for being consistent.

Well I tried it today and came close.
Rifles a Savage 12 in 6.5x284
average group size .480"
I didn't take a pic of the rifle today....this was in the spring. Same setup

Pretty close Slvdout ... and good on you for getting out and burning powder. No doubt that Savage in your hands will make the Challenge. I am not a fan of recoil, but I shot a 6.5/284 recently and was surprised to find it simalar to a 308 in that department. Shoot again, post soon!
Purgatory - keep trying. I think that there is a "confidence" component that is a factor in any challenge. If you can do two, you can do three, you can do four.... Try a break after two and sit back down with your game face on ---it's going to happen.

Decided to do a "refresh" group with the same rig used back in Feb 2013 ... this time in +25C temp instead of sub zero. Just dropped down 0.1 gr and it was good to go. Anybody else game for a little warm weather shooting?

I don't shoot 1/2" MOA all day long as I just don't shoot that much.
Here is a group that I shot while checking my rifle to ensure that it was still sighted in properly. First shot was at the bulls eye, then I dialed it up 5 clicks to be 1.25" high at 100 yards. Group was 3 shots for 13mm or .581" (so that puts groups at .581 -.287) so that should be .227 inches.
Not bad for a factory rifle, shooting factory ammo using my jacket as a rest.
For some reason the picture is tilted 90 degrees as the group should be above the first shot not to the left of it. lol

I took this challenge last summer on another forum but here is my first attempt:
The rifle is custom with the following specs:
Action- Stiller Tac 300
Barrel- Benchmark MTU 1:9" 28"
Stock- AICS Chassis
Cartridge- 284 Winchester
Front Rest- Harris Bipod
Rear Rest- Medium Sand Bag
Group sizes are:
0.346"
0.289"
0.493"
0.471"
0.468"
Smallest group:
Interestingly, those groups were fired before reaching the 200 round mark. The gun shoots even tighter now with low 0.2 MOA averages. I'm very impressed with the barrel and hope to shoot F-Class with it next year.

Good job Tcon and a great looking rig. I've lusted a bit over building a 284 ( more likely the 6.5 as I gave away all my 7mm stuff) ... but long range is just not a possibility for me. I expect you will find that rig will serve you well.
No flies on your groups Ursus /Zulu. Trouble with those teasers is that they are addictive and before you know it you are hooked into "the life"

I ''can't '' get hooked I don't even belong to a range. Lol. I took five shots this year and last two years one shot per year. :-) Who knows maybe this is the year that I join a range, start reloading etc. I can't procrastinate forever? Lol

Yup I'm completely hooked, won't deny it. Wish I was not sometimes, it's a money pit and it's a time sink. But nothing compares to the joy and pride to hear DONG when my carefully crafted lil' copper candies hit the plate !
Next picture post will be in 3 month, when I'll be able to walk and shoot again. Just broke my ankle the day after I received my custom .260....
At least I have a lot of time for load dev!

Working up a new load
I thought this was a great thread and so after being at the range on Wednesday working up some new loads, I thought I would post this scan.
Shot it with a stock Browning A-bolt in 7mm with Barnes 160 TSX at 100 yards with IMR 7828. Don't have a picture of the rifle now, but was off a bench with bags at front and rear. The two upper targets were without a hold on the fore stock just to see the dispersion in the group, and the lower with a proper hold of my one hand on the fore stock. Just working up the load so maybe some tweaking is possible with LOA. Wind was strong, so there is one flier.
I used a program called "on Target" to measure the group instead of calipers. This way I can keep the scanned version without needing the paper copy. Measurement of center to center is 0.447 moa or 0.468".

Some nice shooting ABL and BRJ. Good on you for getting out. You should take a look at the factory sporter challenge or the under an inch challenge for those factory rigs 'cause it will drive you nuts trying to put 25 consecutive shots under 1/2" with a factory sporter. Thanks for posting.

Range time
Was at the range today with the 260 Remington at 100 yds. Used 108 gr. Lapua Scenar and Varget. The stats are 0.372 MOA max center to center. Attached is the target, measurement using OnTarget, and a photo of the rifle. It is a Stiller Tac 30 action, fluted Benchmark barrel, and a yet to be painted Wildcat stock from Sherwood Park. Was the best group of the day, as wind and technique kept me from getting better groups.

Went to the range today i was happy
I had a great day at the range. I just put a new scope on my Sako 85 varmint. Its a Burris XTR II 8x40x56 and i think i am close to having it dialed in.
Groups are measured centre to centre

Sorry my target has 3 half inch squares but i think the circles above the squares are 1/2" diamater so i guess i can shoot 2 of the circles.
I posted a photo of the rifle earlier but since i changed scopes i can repost a new pic!!
