looks like Zeiss is trying to get some sales by building a lower quality scope for people with a lower budget. May be all right but they must have cut some quality somewhere to reduce the price that much.

Yup. Also, Zeiss downsized their Diascopes as well, so the current models are lighter and more compact than previous models.This scope is also very slender and easily packed and of course the price will be a big factor.
Don't check out the new 50mm binos from Swaro then...it could get a whole lot more expensive....talk about compact for a 50mm bino.
