Neat skull... I'm pretty sure you have to take it to Fish & Game and make it legal.

All the paperwork and permits were done this morning, that is why I posted it.

Default yup

yes that is a tag....I found him in an awful spot and many Kms from my truck (we had backpacked a camp in). So since you can not lawfully take found dead wildlife without the permit, I decided that I wanted him bad enough that I would put my tag on it (last day of my hunt for the year). That way since there is a open season for sheep then the head would be mine. It is easy to see that is has been dead for awhile but didn't want to break any rules. After an 8 hr hike out I didn't want to loss him and to be honest it felt good to put a tag on a sheep finally

I brought him into the fish and wildlife office. Told them the story and got my permit, tag off and plug in him.

He is 10+yrs old (very broomed), even with some shrinkage due to weather conditions it has 40" and 37 6/8" length and 15.5 bases....

So just a question here....now that you've tagged a sheep this year, can you buy a licence next year??? I've never had an issue with bringing a found head out and taking it to the F&W office for registration but you are right about the way the law reads. I'd be interested to see what they say about buying a tag next year....guessing it shouldn't be an issue.

Guys,

Explain about taking found dead wildlife without a permit? Don't you have to take the found dead wildlife in to the office to get the permit?

Default next year

Since I was given the found dead wildlife permit and the sheep is registered under the permit not my tag number, I am clear for next year. I struggled with that issue on the mountain...But then figured how many times will I find a book sheep and if the worst thing is that next year I watch a good buddy or my father take a ram then that is fine with me!

I am sure most times you would be fine taking it out but not being from the area I decided not to take a chance. The law is clear on this topic, permit first.

Now does anyone know anyone that does a great job in restoring horns?

I have a couple sets of Dall sheep pick-ups; one set is in perfect shape as you could mount them, and the second set has deteriorated past the point of your bighorn. The older set looks awsome just as they are on the shelf. I have seen some sheep horn restorations and IMO it makes them look fake. Way tougher to restore sheep horns than it is a white set of shed antler. I think they look just great as they are.

boy what a buty he is, at that age i would have to bet a cougar or wolf got him, awsome decision bring ing him out with you i would of done the same thing, good on you to put the tag on him, i probly woudl of packed him out without doing that and taken him in, but since you tagged him you were already one up on it.....awsome for the trophy room especially if you get a cougar and have the horns mounted in with it......

Default Thats a big one

Just finding one dead ram with those dimensions is a tremendous gift. I would prefer to have that trophy on my wall than all the squeeker or barely legal rams that will be shot in this province this year.
