Default Mule Deer/ Elk in 522.

New to the forum, seems like lots of good reading:

Will be hunting both species in 522 starting Sept 17. I am familiar with the area from the Donnelly corner to Spirit River, and last year passing through seen many Mule Deer. I have drawn a Muley tag, thought I would grab a general Elk at the same time.......I have a few questions;
1) How much winter kill,
2) Where would I begin to look for Elk or am I wasting my time, and
3) Status of the elk rut??

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Thumbs up

thx Rickclee,

Does anyone know the status of the elk rut in the Spirit River area?

I'll be heading up in a couple of days to scout the area to the east and try to line something up for on the 17th.

I'm looking for the same answer for 522. I'm not sure if you've filled your mule tags but if you haven't the Wanham Grazing Lease is over crowded with Mule's, both bucks and does. If you looking to fill your tags in a few hours then that the place to be. Now about Elk...It was around Oct 12th @ TWP 722 and RR 40, there were a bunch of cow Elk hanging around in and around the cut line on the south side in a farmers field. The north side is crown land so, if your good at calling then I'm sure you'll have some luck.....

keep it straight..
