Default Winter 2017 coyote hunting. How many and what method??

Hello everyone. Just checking to see how everyone is doing this winter for coyotes. Want to make this thread full of tips and tactics for this year.

I will start

I'm up to six so far in two outings. Mostly a sit and wait if you know their routine and travel habits. Called one in with a rabbit distress. I have not used any electric calls yet. My thoughts are to get the young dumb ones first. Then ease into different calls dependent on the time of the season for them

One of the best tips i can give is if you are thinking of laying prone for a long time. Punch or kick a hole in the snow where your nutz should be at. Makes it way more comfortable.

Good luck to all.

im at 18 so far with a mix of called stalked and coyotes shot over bait. looks like a lot of pups this year in my area.
my tip to pass on is if at all possible go UNDER when crossing fences and dont touch the wire in case the fence creaks.this year i have blown one stalk and one stand because of squeaky fences.

At this time of year I have had them respond to deer grunts and bleats. Strange but maybe not so much as they target deer too.

I'm at 22 so far. Been using combination of howls and distress, along with the caller setup way up wind with the MOJO out front. I've been fortunate enough this yr, a trapper has moved in and set up a bait about 400 yards north of my house. I've shot 10 just sitting in my bales watching these buggers come across my land to head to and from the bait!
I'm heading out today to add to the total.

I have 6, but 2 are from last season (this year) and 2 are from another generous member.

I have 2 others, but they are not sellable and were just practice to help me get better at skinning & fleshing.

I'm just getting set up and meeting a land owner tomorrow.

I have a call and just got myself a Tikka T3X in .223.

First year i'm getting into it seriously.

What is the going rate for a Coyote whole to fur buyer? I was offered $40 per...seams low.

Meatsickle was frozen 2 weeks ago but then forecast had me wait before putting it out. good thing mostly meat and fish floating in the top of bucket an hour ago.
Shooting bench is set up at 200 yards from bait and I have a round bale blind i can set up to intercept the adults on the way to bait after I shoot this years dogs. Numbers must be good as I hear them frequently right at dark 5:10 PM and often through the night from 11 PM to 4 AM. they will need a week or so before showing enough confidence to stick with the bait block after first light or before dusk. Need some -10 to -20 and snow for the background.

x2 I don't know anyone who'll pay $40 for a damaged pelt with bullet holes in it. If you can get that, take it and

40 is a good price. this year i have been getting 35 and i am happy with that. you will always hear rumors of 50 and 60 bucks per coyote from so and so or at such and such colony but unless you are getting perfect color and big dogs 40 is the best you will find.

If they are any holes in the skin does NAFA automatically mark it as Damaged? Every coyote I sent in last year was marked damaged. And most were just .223 entry wound wounds with no exit or shotguned. I know slippage isn't a problem. And any loonie sized holes or bigger I sewed shut. Is sewing worth the effort if it is just going to be marked as Damaged any way?

It may be that they differentiate between a shot dog or a trapped dog.

No we had a number of dogs that were shot and none of them went as damaged . The ones the eagles got in the snares was a different story . Caught our first 2 in snares today and eagle was on one when we got there but I think it is salvageable .

They're used (barely, under 5000 km), and I can't get the rocks out that are in the stud-holes. Gonna re-sell them for what I paid, and buy new ones avec studs...

BTW, my total is now 7...
