New Alberta Backcountry Hunting podcast
Highlander Hunting Podcast is the name of a new podcast which is available for free download on itunes.
Me and my good friend and hunting partner talk about backcountry hunting in Alberta. We are backpack style hunters who mostly hike into crown land, grazing leases to hunt all the foothills and mountain wmu big game speces, except goats. Havent been lucky enough to graw that tag.
We also like to get our kids involved, when it makes sense. So we talk about that too.
There are two episodes on itunes now, and will be posting them weekly.
If that interests you, please download. Please leave us a review or email us with thoughts, feedback, and suggestions for future topics.
Cheers.

Thanks for subscribing.
One of our upcoming guests has been on many local sheep hunts. I believe over 10 successful hunts so should be a good one.
Also, we want to chat with an Albertan about morel mushroom hunting. If anyone knows an experienced Alberta morel forager, we'd like to get in touch.
the next episode will be with 4 families who all hunted together in 2016. We're having dinner together and all bringing a dish made with what we harvested. Should be cool. I expect some elk, mule deer, blackbear, whitetail, and maybe some grouse on the menu. The youngest hunter being a 13 year old girl, a few dads, and some moms too.
Hope you all enjoy it.

Highlander hunting podcast
Hi Everyone, I am John's partner in this podcast and look forward to hearing you're reviews- we have some great idea's about some upcoming topics and guest speakers to have. Both of us are avid podcast listeners, and realized there should be a podcast done by an Albertan- I believe we are the first Alberta hunting podcast! We in Alberta are so lucky to have so much opportunity for hunting and public land access that we would like to share our experiences and get people talking. Any suggestions you have about people that we should interview would be appreciated and welcomed.
A little info on the two of us-we are two average guys that both work regular jobs, and any time we get off we like to spend in the backcountry. We both live in the city, and have a limited budget so horses and private land is not at our disposal. Our regular jobs do not involve public speaking (as you will notice...lol), but both of us have been doing it long enough to be fairly proficient, and would like to put as much information out there as possible for anyone looking at getting into the back-pack hunting game.
We look forward to hearing from you all.
Mike

Very exciting, I'll be checking it out for sure. The rookie hunter podcast has been a great resource for me as I get started on hunting, I look forward to hearing from some local Alberta boys as well.

It was a fun hunt, but as you heard the area we were in had a rough winter... The tags with all taxes in came to $131. We had a friend in BC that was able to go to their office to purchase our tags and do the paperwork, from what we saw you cannot do it online, but have to mail the sheets in- so if you're planning a fall turkey hunt which they offer also, give yourself lots of time.

Hi guys- the podcast will be available for Android soon, our Podcast Director (my wife Sharla) is just waiting for approval from Google. As soon as it is out, we'll share the link on this thread for everyone.

episode 3 is up
Guys, episode 3 is up on ITunes and Google play.
Highlander Hunting Podcast
its about wild food, friends, family, and getting together for a dinner where each hunter brings a dish from last season.
5 people talk about their hunts, what they enjoyed from last season, and their 2017 plans. Its not just the dads hunting either.
Enjoy.

Great podcast boys, always fun to listen to. I liked the one on what's in your daypack and have updated the necessary things that I carry because of it.
If you haven't listened to the Optics podcasts (7 & 8) I suggest you get on it, lots of great info.
I heard you guys are coming out with Highlander Hunting hats, any word on when they'll be available and where I can pick one up?
Cheers!

Thanks we're glad you like the podcast.
We do have some rad caps made up. But right now we just give them to podcast guests. Figured you're using up an hour of someone's time, a cap is the least you can do!
Next podcast we might give a few away tho. Stay tuned! Haha.
We've still got to arrange Rob Furlong, I think that's still a go.
Also heard back from Mantracker, he's a go too.
And........drum roll.....Randy Newberg!!! Yep. He agreed to be our guest. But have to wait til December, he's prepping for, and filming hunts til end of November. He's been super supportive believe it or not.
Thanks again for your support.
Cheers

Keep up the good work guys!
I'm a relatively new hunter, based out of Calgary, and it's good to get some tips from experienced guys based out of the same area.
I'm looking at hunting on General tags this year in Ghost/Waiparous areas this season, so it's good to have some insights on that.
Thanks again, and keep it up!
