Default Opinions on ant patterns?

Do ant patterns produce? At any time of year? Thinking of putting a few in my box.

Grayling are pretty cooperative anyways but they do particularly like black ants

Cinnamon ant with rubber legs saved me quite a few times. Umpqua sells it with barbless hook.

Ants and spiders and beetle like patterns, have got fish for me when I couldn't seem to figure out anything in particular to try, they do work, amazingly well sometimes. Flying ant "hatch" , can be very interesting and productive when they are getting blown off shore. Spider type patterns seem to work when it's windy also.

Default Ants

Thanks guys, that's the info I was hoping to get. One more question; what is a Chernobyl ant supposed to imitate?

Depending on size and colour, usually a stonefly or grasshopper. But smaller ones could pass for ant or beetle. All and all a great attractor fly.

Caught my personal best cutty on an orange and black ant pattern I tie. 23" if memory serves me correctly. Tied on a size 14 hook with the hackle clipped off on the bottom so it rides lower in the film. Deadly stuff!
