Went to a yard sale today and tucked away in a corner with a 20$ price tag was a Sage DS2 6wt 4-piece graphite 2 rod and case that is pretty much brand new and a Orvis battenkill disc 5/6 with a backup spool. (That is the bragging part). My question part is one of the spools has a line on it that is peach/biege at the base then turns grey towards the tip that is green. As seen in the picture linked above.
Can anyone identify the type of line? I'm assuming one is a float line (I suspect the other one) and I think this one is most likely a sinking tip line but I'm no expert. Any help is appreciated.
Given the era of the rod/reel/line early nineties/late eighties it is likely a Scientific Anglers sink tip type 3.... more of a slower sinker than the current models I remember having similar lines for my RPLs the type 4 was a buckskin and grey tip....hope this helps.... nice score
I found a Sage 3106 set up for a level wind in a garage sale a few years ago. It was a custom build, silicone carbide guides, Fuji reel seat, green and gold bindings with beautiful cork. It has never had a reel on it. I've never stripped $70 out of my wallet so fast in my life. When I picked it up there was a guy a few feet away that was just staring at it/me. He knew what I had in my hands and man was he disappointed when I took it. The same rod would be $500 plus to have built.
HOLY WOWZERS!! HUGE score!
I second the Scientific Anglers line, looks like one I have actually.
In fact i think mine is a bone fish sink tip, does it have a rough finish to it?
