Default Pheasant numbers and Load preference

Hi all
I think you could call this my first post ( I may have been on several years ago).

Anyways I was wondering what you folks are seeing for Pheasant numbers. I have been hunting the last 8 years south of Brooks and my 3 GSP's are getting anxious.

Also what are your favorite loads for when you are hunting Huns and Pheasants in the same area for Huns alone I like a 1 ounce #7 1/2 at 1350FPS but the pheasants I like 1 & 1/4 of 6 or 5 at around 1250. This has always caused me some concerns.

If you see a blue F150 with BC plates and a crazy short guy chasing after 3 bird dogs beep your horn or wave your hat.

Fair winds

I use 8's or 7.5's for huns work great.

Shooting different velocity loads in the same day certainly can cause some challenges. If I'm doing a combo hun/pheasant/sharptail outing, I'll keep the same load of 6s in for all of them.

I also usually use #6, but will use #7 1/2 if hunting only partridge.

Default Huns and Pheasants

I think we spoke last year south of Brooks , I had a very young Griffon
He is ready to go this year ...I just hope he takes me with him...
I have shot pheasants and huns , in 5 states and every where they are in western canada ...Both are looking very good this year ,huns are late
and crops are still up so It will be a bit , lots of roosters around ...

#6 for huns ....

#4 for pheasant ( Bull pheasants take alot of killing ) the cover this year is going to be extra thick . You want to kill them dead so they are not deep diving ...

Well If I had a white male shorthair with a torn up chest (darned wire fences) Then that was me. I do sorta recall a Griffion or as my father-inlaw calls them Spemoni dogs (Italian)

# 4 !!!!! I use those on Turkeys so I know they will work on Pheasants.

I will keep an eye open for you this year.

Thanks
Grant

So where abouts are you hunting? I grew up in Brooks and still do a fair amount of hunting around Brooks. I have not been up that way in a few months but around Lethbridge they seem to be around.

Cheap walmart shells #6's for anything upland knocks 'em dead.

I find it the practice with the same load then using that load that works the best. I laugh everytime I see these guys go to Walmart buy the cheap stuff to shoot trap all summer then when pheasant season comes along they buy the Hi velocity pheasant loads and wonder why they cant hit anything.
