Default Grizzly

I reckon that the grizzly was killed before the end of November when the B.C. government banned grizzly killing ...

But-but-but.... Save the bears! No more ruthless hunting!

Give it a rest... Welcome to the real world.

Wow that was a pretty intense set of frames. The a size difference in the two bears contributed to the outcome.

When we were on Kodiak Island doing brown bear photography there was a sow with three cubs that the guide has seen shortly before we got there. We saw her across the bay through a spotting scope with three cubs, then a sow in that location two days later with 2 cubs, then a sow crossed the bay to our side with one cub. The guide said it was the same sow and that most likely a boar had killed and eaten the other two cubs. Adult male brown bear predation on cubs was a serious problem in this area.

Definitely intense.

Interesting to see that side of the causes of bear mortality. Check out this article from 2015 stating the low survival rate of cubs in Banff that year - and this due to cannibalism.

Ouch, can you imagine that sob getting ahold of you. That fight must have went on for some time before the photos started, looked like the other bear couldnt defend its self any longer.
Pretty "inhuman" way to die. Maybe someone can start a petition to get bears to stop killing other bears! Good reason to have a small regululated hunt on mature boars.

Too bad the photographer didn't make a video of it for everyone to post up on social media and show the city folk the way nature really works...

No doubt! Death for a wild animal is never humain, a well place shot being the most humain.

On a different note, no meat is ever wasted either. Ask the golden eagles and turkey vultures if they minded eating the grizzly I shot when I lived in BC. 5 birds had it to bones in 2 days. Its the circle of life when an animal dies, trickles right down to the mice and the flys.

Default Grizzly boar

I shot a big brown bear boar in Alaska a few years ago. At the time, and I still think the same way, I thought it was the coolest trophy in all of North America ... In his time I am sure that he killed endless moose (big and little) and all of the grizzly cubs and black bears that he could catch.

He would have also been able to kill all but the very monstrous brown bears of legend ....

At a time when Alberta and B.C. have banned grizzly hunting .. I could have legally killed two... they want to help out the moose in the area ..
