I posted this on another forum but last time you guys enjoyed my story so figured id post it up here as well.
Today was a slow day at work and i figured if there was a day i could get away with leaving early it would be my birthday so i clocked out and headed for some land nearby.
i parked my truck in the ditch and headed over to some hills i suspected to have some good vantage points.
after finding a spot to sit I opened up with a few howls on the power howler and was answered by multiple dogs just over the next hill.
i waited a bit then did some open reed distress which produced nothing so i let out a few squeals on a closed reed which was met with 2 hard charging coyotes.
i watched as both coyotes sprinted past the pre-ranged 150 yard "kill zone" that i had planned to shoot incomers at and ran below the lip of the hill on which i sat.
The 222 was positioned and ready for the close 20 yard shot but right before cresting the hill the lead dog stopped and stared me down through the grass which left me with no shooting option.
she was nervous and began letting out a confused *whoof*. her and her partner milled around in front of me not sure what was going on as i tried to softly lip squeak them in.
suddenly the lead dog turned and peered off to my left indicating something was over there. i carefully turned my head to see a coyote at a dead run flying into my lip squeaks.
i abandoned the 2 in the grass in front of me and swung the rifle around to this hard charging dog and just as he was about to disappear the Tikka spoke and the coyote was down.
and now for the real reason i made this post.
to show off the awesome pictures i got!
one of my other hobbies is photography and so i will fully admit that i was kinda geeking out a bit when i realized how good the light was.
