There are few requests for information that the present government will not deny and refer to the "privacy act" as the reason.
This is in spite of a FOIP decision that names of individuals in possession of governement issued "discretionary benefits" (licences, permits, leases, etc) is Public information.
Remember the reporter who recieved the names of all hunters in possesion of a Grizzly bear tag? Here is the Privacy Commisioners decision explaining the ruling. Use it remind government personnel that the "privacy act" does not apply to this type of information request.

Our government must be trained to stop witholding public information.
