It will be interesting come shift change , if the night shift workers have been up all day getting their families settled somewhere safe, and the people already on site have already put in a shift and want to get to their families. I have a feeling that the plants will be running with skeleton crews, and many of those workers won't have had much if any sleep. Things are going to be very tough for many people.

My hometown is burning down. I am at a loss of what to say, my heart goes out to all those directly affected by the beast.

I finally reached one friend that is in a traffic gridlock headed North. Apparently people are headed North, and many of them have no idea where they will end up tonight. My friend is headed for the plant, and plans on sleeping in his office tonight, and will see what tomorrow brings. He grabbed a 20l bottle of water a box of assorted food and a few clothes, and headed North.

Good man, we have room for people we could do 10 people short term in house, we have lots of room for trailers we are 40 north of Westlock. Pm if you need help, we could take some animals too. We also have tents and plenty of food and water

Be safe people.

For what it is worth, I have a bunch of livestock panels that I modified for dog kennels that can be set up for peoples dogs to be sheltered in and lots of room for motorhomes to set up if needed. I realize that I am quite a ways away from Ft. McMurray but the offer stands if anyone has nowhere else to go.

WOW! It's been bumper to bumper with 30,000 people leaving. Now there is 70,000 more. I sure hope they start using all the lanes on the hwy to head out of town. I couldn't believe my eyes when 2 lanes were not being used because they are the "wrong way".

One does need to leave at least one northbound lane for emergency vehicles. I'm sure that Fire Dept's from throughout the province will be deploying up there, as well as additional police, EMS, etc.

You would think that getting as many people out in the first couple hours is more important then worrying about the incomming help that is many hours away. Just heard on the news that there are a lot of people stuck in their neighborhoods, just trying to head out of town. But whatever, I'm sure they are doing the best they can.

I agree, if they could open up one lane and keep it to smaller vehicles that could be pushed out of the way in the event of breakdown or running out of fuel its feasible.

I know the comparison is fictional but it mirrors an observation I made to my wife when watching The Walking Dead, the road out of town is gridlocked and the road going in is desolate. At such a point most wouldn't care about driving the wrong way, once one gets the idea many will follow.

If it comes to it I'm sure people will drive the opposite direction if it becomes a choice between a traffic infraction or getting barbequed.

It's four lanes going south now, all one direction.

Just heard Brian Jean's house is gone.

Man every time I see the pictures on tv it just gives me goose bumps, hope everyone stays save, feel very helpless, our hearts go to all of you battling the blaze, all the citizens of Fort Mac, and everyone that is involved getting people out of the city.
