It's clear that most of you don't remember what it was like when you were a noob.

Wow. My experience has been the opposite. I generally like people and love to have conversations about hunting, fishing and dogs with almost anyone who shows an interest in these same areas. And guns😀
When I run into people (hunting) I smile and wave and sometimes it results in a wave or nod and other times it's a half hour or more chat. Are you sure that it's dirty looks or maybe there are just curious? Peaking in your box to see if you got a buck, perhaps?
I agree with some here in that finding hunting buddies can be hard to do. I have very few friends that hunt and most don't live close or even in Alberta so it's tough to find a person to go with. Also the reasons why people and hunt and how they hunt varies greatly from person to person so that while a great day for me, for example may be walking the foothills relaxing and I am happy to just be outdoors. For you it may mean setting trail cams and sitting in a stand motionless all day. Different strokes for different folks, being new probably doesn't factor into it most times. Safety for yourselves and your dog should though.😀
Good luck with your season and hopefully you find someone to show you the ropes.
I would be hesitant letting someone who I didn't know shoot around my dog too. The risks are much higher than the rewards, at least until you know that person better.
