Default Got'R done

Ten days into my elk hunt and 4 days left to go finally connected with this guy. Started the trip off to a rocky start with a foot injury but we hunted hard. Elk and moose encounters everyday day for past two weeks but nothing came to fruition until last night. During our walk out of the woods we came across this nice moose. Did a 160 yard stalk and he was coming towards us for a fight. Buddy behind me with his bow above his head like a moose, and after ranging 3 times got to 40 yards. I took a risky shot, full frontal with my 465 grain FMJ tipped with Grim Reaper. Complete pass through and he died within 20 yards not even 30 seconds after shot. To top it off he died on the main trail. No tracking or humping meat out on my back. Drove the truck through the grazing lease right up to him. My first Archery moose and first kill with my bow. I must say I'm sold on the Grim reapers and my arrow setup now

And you were right. I'm sold on them now, and may have converted my Rage fan buddy of mine to make the switch

How about a few of the other pics with your crew. You know, like the ones they had at the end of that Hangover movie.

Great stuff! Congrats.
Did the arrow pass through from front to back? Or did it exit at an angle? That's impressive either way. Frontal shot can go awry in a hurry as you alluded to so what gave you confidence in this specific situation? I see it as a "I'd have to be in the situation to know what I'd do" scenario and don't regret passing on the one opportunity I had but haven't completely ruled out every frontal shot

He was coming down a slight hill so his rear end was a bit higher than his front and a very slight quartering to. Arrow entered at the crease between his front leg and where it meets his front chest. Arrow came out lower mid section.

Honestly I've always thought I'd never try a frontal shot and wouldn't necessarily take one again. Something just said to me to take the shot. I was pretty confident it would work and it did. At 40 yards and wanting to brawl I took the opportunity over a possible bad encounter with the bull.

Like you said wouldn't try that again, you threaded the needle, great bull, nothing like the captain and a fresh off the bone steak!
