Need a old land yacht to mount it on. The frost heaves on hwy 43 will be just like you're sailing on the high seas. Lol

Default Norwest Alta, What about the Last Saskatchewan Pirate?

Norwest Alta,

As a Red Blooded Albertan, are you really telling the group that you have never heard of the Last Saskatchewan Pirate?

Captain Tractor eulogized him in the Song of the same name.

I heard that he still roams the banks of the mighty Saskatchewan. AND HE DOESN'T PAY NO GST!!!!!

I bet that little cannon was just to protect that load of wheat and barley, and all those other grains!

Yes I've heard of him. He a good pirate. I was figuring it's a cannon for bad pirates. Without pics I can't tell if it's a good pirate cannon or a bad one.

On behalf of the OP.

Looks like it’s a glorified toy. Something you’d see at a blackpowder rendezvous.

I would bet money there were pirates on the big lakes here in Alberta, no proof though.

The girl with the black ring around her eye brought back memories of when we'd put hi temp grease on the eye pieces of the big eyes then call up to the bridge for a contact confirmation. Lol

Default Ships cannon

I was thinking of mounting it on the hood of my truck as an ornament and off-road duck hunting lol.

If it’s legit, there will be proof marks and other casting cartouches somewhere on the gun.... more looking and more pics.

If it’s circa correct, it’s in pretty fine shape for its age, even re creations and a few buckets of single F will be prematurely aged.

Defiantly will garner yourself some attention with such an arrangement.

Quite possibly attention you didn’t want, mind you.

Any Self Respecting Pirate in Alberta would know that your ship of choice is an old El Camino flying the Skull and Cross Bones.

Imagine that thing mounted on that long sweeping hood.

Default Signal Cannon

They also made smaller cannons for signaling from shore based instillation or it could even be a signal cannon from a yacht club .
Used to signal the start of a regatta or the finish of a race.
Then again it could have been carried in the back of a wagon or a buckboard for other reasons too.
Lots of possibilities.

I might. Will it fit on the old combine in my yard or have to mount it on the duetz?

I had a client (passed away a good 14 or so years now) whose hobby was building replica antique cannon and artillery but scaled down. He was quite financially comfortable and he had a nicely equipped shop in his walk out basement in the Scarboro neighborhood here in town. He was an entomologist but I believe he also used to own CFCN some time ago. Nice gent, always fun to chat with. Lovely character home too.
