Just wondering if anyone has tried or if it is possible to tighten a primer pocket,I truly doubt it, just curious if one could anneal the primer pocket like the shoulder annealing.Hope to learn a new trick tks

I have seen a thread on this somewhere…they used a hollow punch like tool to peen the pocket tighter, with a mandrel in the case. There’s various methods- just Google “fix loose primer pockets”. Basically you’re peening the outer edge of the pocket like a crimp would.

If loose pockets are due to over pressure you may run the risk of gas cutting your bolt face.

Don’t ever anneal the primer pocket or case head area. Terrible things will happen. Only anneal case neck/shoulder area. Case head is meant be hard.

You can tighten shotshell primer pockets with a punch, but the case heads are much thinner, and the pressures much lower. Never try to anneal cases beyond the neck/shoulder.

I believe Henry Remple sells swedging tools to tighten Both small and large rifle primer pockets.

I haven't tried them myself I heard Ginex primers fit very tight could be a easy way out

I just bought 100 to try, will see how they seat. I tried 1 this morn and it seated wonderful. Once fired brass. Will seat more tonight.

There are smaller/ larger primers, research primer dimension's on google. DO follow the above advice. DO NOT, no matter what, follow some internet hackers advice on the internet unless your willing to do your own research or are willing to lose an eye? or worse, especially in this case.

Been reloading 410 for almost a year now, and ya, after 2x or so they primers will loosen up.

I’ve ordered a punch type tool to snugg the pocket back up, will see how it works as it on back order.

Just looking at it on the website, it isn’t a simple punch.
It’s like a deprimer tip and a cupped cone 1/4” further back from the tip.
So to crimp the pocket base slightly when tapped with a small hammer.

I have 5-6 loads on my 410 hulls , and no issues with primer pockets yet.
