I don't shoot a 7mm rem mag but i've heard that the balistic tip is not a very good hunting bullet at the lower weights under 180g. I would try the accubond. Same type accuracy, tougher bullet.

I've shot a number of antelope, deer, moose and bear with the 7RM loaded with the 150 BT, but never with the 120 BT. As a strictly deer load, I believe it would be exceptionally lethal, plus a very flat trajectory.

i get pass through's on deer, farthest so far ranged 348yds, from a 280. one shot elk for my boy two years ago, shot at 80 yds with 280 as well. only 6"
drop at 300, chrony'ed at 3200.
something interesting to note, that i did not know till last week when i split one i half, the lead is not bonded to the jacket, like the accubond's.
i quite like their perfonrmance, and always get excellent accuracy from them, lee.

I never shot an animal with the 120 BT in my 7mm Mag. When they first came out, about 20 years ago, I was heading to Montana on an antelope hunt. Got the idea that that it should shoot "flatter than **** on a platter" at 3400-3500fps. Well at 3200fps the groups were already larger than I would accept and at 3500 they were over 6". I took my 7mm-08 that shot 0.31" groups with the Nosler SB at 2815 f/s.

I later found that I could push the 120 BT to 3200fps in my 24"Rem model 700 V, in 7mm-08 and get sub 1/3" groups. I shot a large cow moose with this combo at under 200 yards and the bullet did the job. Pushing them to 3000+fps, in a Rem Model 7 stainless, my son put a bullet through both lungs and out the other side of a nice antelope buck at 500 yards.

My nephew has taken numerous moose, elk and deer with the 140 BT at 3000fps in his 280. That being said I think that a better choice would be to use the 140 and 160 AccuBonds on large game and leave the 120 & 140 BT's to small game and varmints.

Default 120gr nosler bt

Interesting note, the jacket on the 120gr is the same as the 140gr but making it twice as thick, due to it being shortend.they were made that way from nosler for smacken the steel gongs.I have witnessed their performance out of an STW at aprox 3500 ftps or so on deer, out to 300 yrds with complete pass tru.these bullets would surprize you,not your average btip.but what do i know i hunt with my interlocks, allways have and allways will.

I take it that not too many of you guys shoot the the 120's. I have a buddy that shoots them and he's trying to talk me into using them for caribou this year.

After three experiences with the 120 balistic Tips in 25'06, two resulting in lung shots and long tracking jobs, the other with a quartering shot that did not penetrate overly far, the group I was hunting with in those years decided to stay away for the B Tip.
These shots were within 150 yards.....

my chrony must be broke too. read 3075 and 3100 from 3 different stevens 200's. probably had another grain to go for pressure, but hit accuracy.
measured 3500 in my 280 ai, lee.

The 120gr 7mm ballistic tips actually have a thicker jacket than the heavier 7mm ballistic tips, and they hold together quite well. The jacket was made thicker to make them more suitable for silhouette shooting.

Default 7mm

If I were going to shoot a 120gr. bullet out of a 7mm it would be a TSX not a nosler balistic tip.just my opinion.

For moose or elk,I would use the TTSX,but for deer sized game the 120gr ballistic tip works very well.

I've harvested many deer with a 100 gr. Nosler ballistic tip that shot out of my 257 Weatherby. Its a custom made that has a 28" Galliard barrel. Average volicities are 3,705 fps. All shots were tight behind the front leg with a complete pass through. A .284 dia. X 120 gr. will do the job just fine on caribou and deer.

I've Always used 130 gr Nos/B-Tips in my 270 since I first started loading for it. Took a lot of deer with em in over 20+ years!! Only one instance where I nicked an unseen alder in front of my deer and left a cratered wound on the shoulder blade....cartwheeled him...by the time he regained his footing, the second one was already underway.....dropped him so fast he raised a cloud of dust!!..That being said, I played with some Accubonds and Partitions too....for when I want to take a moose with the old girl..... and not my 300WSM, who,BTW, also loves the Nosler Balistic and Balistic Silver Tips

I used a Pact chronograph with sky screens set at 36". I don't think you could have a more accurate chronograph. My son still uses it and I may trade him for my new Chrony.

Another guy called BS when I told him the velocities I was getting so I set his Chrony just behind my Pact and his showed higher reading. Perhaps you could learn something if you asked how I get those velocities rather than calling BS???????????

Never used a 120 in a 7 Rem Mag but I've shot lot's of 140 gr accubonds and they work well. Also had a 7 rem mag that loved the 160 partitions. I am a big fan of using a bullet that stays together rather than one that can come right apart at the higher velocities.
I would say that several bullets would fall into that category (accubond, TSX, Interbond, Patition etc...)
Good luck!
