With or without maggots

Many experienced fishmen told me to tip a maggot on the wired hook while fishing whites, but I don't feel any difference when I don't have the maggot on the hook. How do you feel?

i us a bare hook no maggots.

I've found the color of the wire worm to have way more impact than whether or not there was a maggot on the hook. I've had the best luck with brass or gold wire by far.
