Thats what some guys from work from my Edmonton office said. Been there 2-3 years in a row.....no moose.
Or maybe its just their hunting skills.
Maybe get in WAY OFF the main roads and you may find sucess.

There have been lots of "road warriors" up there trying to see what walks across.. Getting off the main roads is the key to any zone...

Ya I haven't fully decided yet I've got a wall tent I know of an area where I can b 20+km from the nearest road but convincing my buddies to come up there is thereal challenge. It's nice area but the hunting is defanately tough. Might just hunt a little closer to home again

We hunted hard there last year late season...... 11 days one meat bull
I'm thinking calling season would up the odds dramatically......Big zone though
Lots of grizz in that zone, as I was told alot of problem bears from banff get dumped in there........ GLTU

That goes for a lot of wmu's. That goes for other big came like deer, & elk.
I have been hunting for 29 consecutive years beginning back in 1983 & back then most hunters were bush hunters & there were a lot of them & so you had to find a place where you hope no one goes. Of course there were not as many lease roads as there are now, most roads were lumber roads in that year, & many of them were only walkable since they dug deep trenches every 100 yrds or so....or you owned a quad. I hardly ever saw a quad back then. I have nothing against them I just hardly saw one.
Now it is reversed, way more road activity & way less bush hunting at least in the wmu's I hunt.
Of course no one may agree with this & this is only an opinion but to ease the pressure on some wmu's they ought to withdraw antlerless supplemental deer tags in more wmu's, or at least make it so that you can only hunt 1 sup in one wmu & hunt the other sup in another wmu.
Again just an opinion.

Deer population is down, but still healthy. Elk are increasing but the bulls never make it more then a few years, very high hunting pressure on them.
There are still some good places to find Moose, but only a few locals know those spots, and they aren't talking.
Being that you are soon to be a local, I'm sure you'll learn about some of those places once you've been here a while.

That's why I like it when there are washouts on the old roads that don't get fixed.. No one uses them as much anymore (old logging roads, etc) and there is no reason to fix them. They will keep those that hunt by the roads out of some areas, and keep the hunter numbers down in more remote areas..

There aren't elk in 524 and you would be hard pressed to find a decent deer, moose numbers are down.

There are some Elk, if you know where to look. Same with the Deer.
And you are right, it would be hard to find a good Deer out that way.

Well, I've worked down the chin for the last 15 years, lived in Manning for the last 35, own an outfitting business in the area and basically have been moose hunting out that way with my grandpa and dad since I was 6 years old. In that time I have seen the moose populations plummet, have seen one whitetail deer worth shooting, a couple fork horn mule deer at kilometer 80 and I have never seen an elk across the pipeline or north of the river. There could be the odd straggler but why would you ever hunt elk in 524, basically known as a moose and bear zone. Fly and quad all over this zone, I have never seen an elk, guess I don't know where to look.

Wolves
We were late season hunting 524 first week of nov last year..... only a skiff of snow ....... Talked to a local trapper ....... he said at one time lots of deer in his area , now the wolves have moved in and cleaned them out
And we did run into alot of fresh wolf tracks, could be why the deer numbers are way down up there....
